Although it had been owned and operated by whites, for blacks, its failure led to a loss of confidence in bankings for blacks, a feeling that remains until the end of the century. After Reconstruction, which was 1877 to 1900, several powerful forces led to the establishment of black banks. During this period, there was the incentive provided by black churches, fraternal organizations, and secret societies which were unable to obtain credit from white banks
