1. The inspiration behind the book.

So, Deepak, what motivated you to delve into the narrative of the Kargil war, specifically focusing on the individual stories of the soldiers who fought so bravely and gained national recognition in the year 1999?

So that's when I realized that if I don't write books about, if I don't write a book on the Kargil war detailing the stories of these unsung heroes, I will do a disservice to them because I had read many books on the Kargil war earlier, but what I found was these were dry histories. Like these were of only military interest. Sadly, I did not find any book which portrayed the human emotions which go through a soldier during the war

2. What was your research methodology?

We all know that the battles that happened at Tololing, Tiger Hill, three pimples, Pt.4875, and Khalubar were pivotal in the Kargil war. How did you ensure a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of these crucial moments that shape the outcome of the conflict? It would be great if you could talk a little bit about your process and all the research that went behind the writing of your book

We had the 17 jar, we had the 13 Jack riff, we had second Rajrif, we had 18 brand deals. We had twelve jackali. We had one by eleven Gorkha rifles. So the good thing about the army is, ma'am, so once they know that someone is doing a genuine thing, like once the officers and men of 13 Jacob realized that I was doing a genuine job as genuinely bringing out the stories of their bravehearts

3. Unique geographic and challenges of the Kargil region.

The Kargil war is regarded as one of the most difficult wars in modern military history. How did the unique geographical and strategic challenges of the Kargil region contribute to the complexity of the conflict, and how did the soldiers adapt to these challenges? I'm sure as you did your research for the book, a, you would have gained deeper insights into how the conflict played out in this kind of a treacherous, unforgiving sort of territory. So I would love to have your take on this, Deepak

So that situation from which we emerged, that is all thanks to our junior leaders, our young lieutenants, our captains, our majors, our riflemen, our lansnakes naiks and on top of that, our military leadership. Because what we did at Kargil, what the indian army did at Kargil, never before in the annals of military history has such a treacherous battle at such heights taken place for a period of more than two, two and a half months

4. What message or lessons do you hope your readers take away from the book?

I personally believe that a book like yours that chronicles the experiences of soldiers during the Kargil war is very significant in today's context. So what message or lessons do you hope your readers will take away from this book?

We have been in conflicts in the last 75 years. Not because of our own doing, because of our neighbors, because of our troubled neighbors, they have been trying to seize away a large chunk of our territory. But then we have our indian soldiers at the border protecting us. They don't celebrate their festivals. They are not present for the birthdays of their children. They're not present for their anniversaries
