article image placeholderUploaded by @SmitaRuth-24
I don't know. Why do people take such liberty? Just know, go ahead with say something really very strange and it really irritates me and oh my God, my name is so common and in India and I've been called Samita and it gets on my nerves when someone calls me Smita. Seriously, it's so irritating. It's smita. Why it's so difficult to pronounce? It's such a simple name. Okay, I understand

Legal proceedings are still pending and changing it in all the government documents is still pending. But I have started using it everywhere for the last couple of years actually now. So I completely agree with you. When someone doesn't pronounce your name correctly or doesn't even bother to ask how to pronounce it correctly, it does pinch a little. I remember when earlier people used to mispronounce my name a lot, especially those out of India. They would call me either Anamika or Anna or whatever

You said you're okay to be called as Anna and I guess that may be your nickname or something that you mutually agreed. My question here is will they do the same if they have not so familiar common English name and make you agree mutually to be called in an Indian version of it? I guess they won't. So why do we do that? Again, I say it's totally your preference, your choice, whichever things work for you

And her acting skills, definitely to the point where you mentioned whether the people outside India or overseas, will they adjust their names or not? Well, I have thankfully, gratefully invited such people in my life. I have come across such people who have done that. So wherever they had a little complicated name, they asked me to it's okay, you can call me this. So it has happened with me for sure, and to each their own

But yes, it does get annoying at times when people don't get it right. But then, yeah, when there are so many different cultures and dialects and so on and so forth. What's in the name, you might ask? Well, as always, very interesting post. Thank you for this
