Childhood Trauma and Adulthood effects Podcast #1

My first introduction to Swell would definitely be childhood Trauma and Adulthood Effects. I absolutely am really am interested in this topic. I went to school, I have a degree in sociology and psychology with the minor in child psychology, and I have really learned a lot over the years. I am a survivor of childhood trauma with big capital letters of PTSD from this trauma. And I didn't know that was a thing for a while, I honestly didn't until I started reading and read that

And then in therapy, as I've started to unpack more, I'm realizing that there were things in my childhood that potentially caused me to turn out in certain ways that I did. So I'm really glad that you're making a swell about that to kind of just talk a little bit more about it. Because I think it's really important to remember that childhood trauma really can have some effects on your adulthood. And a lot of them you won't even realize

And I'm really interested in doing inner child work with adults. And I also have been an early childhood teacher for the past ten years. I am very interested in educating people on how important it is to both look at your past and work through what you've been through and your PTSD and knowing your triggers. I think a lot of people aren't aware, and I'm still learning mine too. And then also just the importance of early childhood. I just don't think there is valued enough

And somebody might say, well, they just had a tough parent, get over that and grow up much like you said. You said some people are saying you got to be tough, but in that moment for that child and that kid, that may have caused some PTSD and somebody might say be tough, get over that

And then we actually would stop her from sitting on the floor because that's where she would be able to do it the most and we wouldn't allow her to sit on the floor and she would try to find a way to put her feet in her chair so she can actually get into the motion of things. And that just broke my heart. And again, as an educator, you see these things

I am so happy that you're in therapy. That is a big, big step. One of the things I've learned while taking my master's class for family and marriage therapy was is that you can't even go to counseling for other things until you deal with the trauma, because it's very hard to fix something like concentration or a lack of motivation, things like that, without getting to the root of your issues from childhood. So that's amazing

New Swell. Childhood Trauma and Adulthood Podcast 2 Effect

And I feel like for trauma, the first thing we need to do is look at it as, this belongs to me and no one else. So I'm the only one that can tell myself how to feel about it. That's important. No one else can tell you how to feel about it. Whether small or big, no one else can tell you how to feel about your trauma, and no one else can tell you when it's time to move on from your trauma
