Autism Edition: "Irrational" or only perceived through a limited lens? β™ΎοΈπŸ§

From sensory input to interactions with other people and environments and language and communication and concepts. And it is a lot. So it's like our brain, our computer is overclocked by comparison to an alistic brain. And so when someone from the outside looks at some of the behaviors that, for example, I do and calls them irrational, to me, it's like, why do you not bother to ask questions or try to understand, right?

Thank you. Christina. As always, I really appreciate your perspective and your words. You are always educating. Educating. When you started talking about communication, I feel the exact same way, and I'm not tested sometimes. I think I might be on the spectrum, but that's my here nor there. To me, I take your message. I mean, I hear all the words that you're saying in the direct situation that you're talking about

That, and again, you're talking hearing from a person who is not an expert in autism. I believe in some way, 99.99% of humans are on the spectrum to some degree, because some of the things that you were describing in terms of doing the same steps in a process, everyday independent activity of daily living, that you follow the same steps to remove extra thinking from it. So it becomes byrote, if you will. A lot of people that are not diagnosed do the same thing

Thank you so much for your words. I really needed this. I've been struggling the last while of not being understood or being judged or stuck in boxes or limited, and I just wish there was more expansive, embracing. I really liked your take on understanding people from the entirety. I think of this in so many different areas that we don't do it that way. Right
@SeekingPlumb

@Her_Sisu

But the difference is that those who have certain diagnoses stem more than the average, and that's what sets it apart. And even the idea of creating patterns of behavior. I would say that for the most part, although there are people who do this that are not diagnosed, they don't necessarily do it for the same reasons or they don't do it to any sort of magnitude, right?

They may have certain characteristics which will help them be put into a category, because you need to be in order to get services, right? Educational services or medical. But that's it. After that, I'm kind of like, all right, this is so and so. This is how they think. Let me approach it in a way that works for them. So thank you

They can't possibly allow room for there to be a different understanding, which is really a shame for all of us, whether it's somebody like me who's being stuck in those boxes, or whether it's everyone who's missing out because there is not a broader understanding of the spectrum of autism. I mean, I've also had quote unquote experts telling me that they have the solution to fixing me. And I'm like, I don't need fixing

Wow, that was very powerful. Christina, thank you so much for your transparency regarding your journey. And I want it to be respectful. My aim is to be respectful and say that by no means would be comparing ADHD to autism. And what the psychologist explained to me was, in a way, to minimize your experiences, past and current or to make light of it, because all of the diagnoses are serious and important to learn more about. And I'm not in contact with that psychologist anymore

@Her_Sisu

Anyway, I don't know if that offers anything, but it came to mind as I was listening. Also have been some studies that this was a thought that was originally autistics have had for a while, but there was a study recently that talked about how they think. This is actually the case where individuals who are autistic and ADHD have probably been around since the very beginning and they were needed in communities of humans with respect to being able to pick up on warning signs within nature. Right?
