AI WILL change us. Are we ready?

article image placeholderBonhoeffer's "theory of stupidity": We have more to fear from stupid people than evil ones
Instead, I'm trying to, I guess, bring others alongside and hopefully that we can see what's on the not too distant future on the horizon and see if there's a recognition, because once we can see it coming, then we can address solutions and what to do about it. There are amazing things coming out of AI right now with respect to advancements in science, in tech, and so many different areas

Now, stupidity, there's a lot of ways you could use that word, apply that word, think about that word. But some of the thinking that's included in this article is really interesting. And I think specifically within the context of this conversation around AI and how it's going to affect us as humans if we think of in this case, stupidity is not necessarily a blanket brushstroke to describe the entirety of a person, but instead we have these stupid moments of I sometimes ask really stupid questions

Who am I? What is my purpose? Why am I here? But these are all really beautiful and deep questions to find a greater meaning in the moment you're in right now. So my hope for AI is actually that people will become more curious, there will be more wonder because there's also going to be more connection

@SeekingPlumb @KurtWaterstradt great points all around!

No, Christina, we are not ready. We weren't ready ever. But that is the way of technology. It always breaks before there is a readiness. And this is why it's always a step ahead of bureaucracy, especially in the legislature, and why legislature always has to catch up to technology. It's the way it's always been. Like when there were horses and they made the first cars, there were no regulations around driving and safety

@KurtWaterstradt

And so I guess I'm wondering, why would AI not be that next iteration of the next sort of washing machine, if you will, the next thing to take away the, quote unquote, menial tasks of thinking? Like, why would this not become that? I don't know if I'm making sense or if I'm communicating this very well. Sorry

I think people will start noticing the difference and AI will be able to do a lot of things and it'll blow a lot of people's minds and it will help advance us in ways I'm sure we can't even imagine right now. But I think it's also going to show the difference between us and a machine. And my hope, glass half full, half empty, however you want to see it

@theheartdrive @KurtWaterstradt

I didn't mention it before, but I'm in agreement with you, Kurt, with respect to humans desiring, needing connection. And to your point, Arya, I definitely think that when tech takes a priority over the human need, or the money takes a priority over the human need, then we end up misguided. I mean, like anything, you can start out with good intentions, but as soon as the priority is shifted away from human humans, things can go wrong

@SeekingPlumb @KurtWaterstradt

Obviously not magically, but you get the point. Now, there are things that are lost for sure in that process. And they went with the culture of whatever task had to be done. There was obviously a human relationship and connection around that. And so even the way that we relate to each other will shift as a result. I share some concerns where I see my kids, for example, and how used to they are. The algorithms are nothing for them. They take it completely for granted
@SeekingPlumb

@KurtWaterstradt

And then to expect not only for them to survive, let alone thrive in the economy, the tension politically in North America and any of these other aspects of existence around the planet now we're expecting them to also pick up the slack with respect to advancements in tech and how we move forward, I don't know. And and this could just be my own personal hang ups, you know, but I do think you're right that they have different perspectives and so they will do things differently
@SeekingPlumb

@theheartdrive

But I'm really curious about this article about the Delineation or the AI reflecting back to us maybe more of what it is, our humanity, so that we can see it and appreciate it more and be able to see more of a distinction between and because from a few different perspectives. It used to be said that AI will never be able to create art that moves us

Unfortunately, society doesn't move at the pace of technology and there are all kinds of problems between early adoption and then when it becomes ubiquitous. At this point, I choose the positive side that I want because that's where I'm going to land. It's like anything else. Yes, we use social media. I use social media. Obviously this is social media and I'm on one or two other platforms and there's a whole lot of negativity around it. Believe me, I understand
