Instead, I see this as indicative or embodying the history, right, the century upon century of how things are noted and recorded and how that's perpetuated even today, in that he probably considered it just an innocuous statement. But to me, it reinforced that the default experience, the default understanding of humanity is male. And I was just it's disappointing

Hi, Christina. It's Me Again. And you're perhaps not good to like what I have to tell you, but the fact is that it is easier for men to just safe with the that go back in a period of time. And who would you like to interact with? Because they would never have to really take into consideration oppression unless you're a man of color. But even then, that is still pretty far less than if you are a woman and then a woman of color

And when these beliefs are held so tightly and internalized, there's almost a dehumanizing aspect that can happen. I'm not saying this happens with everyone, but it can happen when perceiving the opposite gender. And then you throw into it where all of society and the concepts of humanity default to a male existence or a perspective, et cetera, then I think this begins to not only create, but perpetuate hierarchies of existence

So I'm always curious, like, how much subconsciously, perhaps, are they really so pro choice? And that's not for me to say, but it is undeniable that they have the upper hand. They have the power. We live in a patriarchy, and things are still, like you said, seen through the male. Gays men are still making more money than women
@SeekingPlumb

@ZLisbon

So many great points with respect to benefiting from systemic patriarchy. I sometimes wonder, like, no matter the gender, if we really have a concept or understanding of how interwoven patriarchal ideas are. I was in a conversation on another platform with a group of women this morning discussing some of these things and the idea of men wanting to control women came up. And of course, that's not new, but this one woman mentioned a book she had read called Untrue

But I can tell you that the way that I've been treated being ignored, being talked over, mansplained is such a stark contrast to the way that I was treated when I was seen as a man. And because because of this unique perspective, I can say with a pretty fair amount of certainty that there's a huge percentage of guys who don't understand, don't believe, or even on their radar that there is privilege that comes with being seen as a man. And you know what?

And part of me is grieving because, well, part of me rants and raves against the injustice of the patriarchy and how these things negatively affect men and women, non binary trans, et cetera, everyone, right? When I think about the possibility of awareness suddenly coming to be even how that would be traumatic and we would have a really difficult time with it, right

Sing it. Sisters, I've got nothing to add because y'all covered it so well. So I'm just going to sing it for you. It's just me, myself and I, so we'll ride until I die, cuz I got me for life. I don't need no hunt at home, even when the night is cold. I got that fire in my soul

And so I feel like I've had a unique experience and that I've had relationships with straight men, I've had relationships with queer men, lesbians, so like people in the queer community and then often a lot of straight men because there's so many of them, especially so many who are single. And it's interesting to see that the ways in which gender still needs to be reckoned with within the queer community and how cisnormativity and stuff is still very much alive within the queer community

I'm not going to buy a whole entire brand new wardrobe just to travel to that country. Now, who knows? Five years from now, ten years from now, 20 years from now, I might have a change of heart, and I'm willing to do that. But right now, I'm not willing to do that. I'm like, why do I have to? It's 2022. And if that is what the expectation is for the women in that country, fine

When they hold us back from valuing and seeing another human as simply human but instead we create stories about what it is to be a Republican or a Democrat or a woman or a man or nonbinary or this color of skin or that religion or disbelief or that right all of these other ideas that create wall after wall after wall and put these barriers between us and the next person instead of just seeing them as fellow humans

And your response is just a reminder to me that, no, like, my most authentic self, even when I'm emotional, even when I'm feeling overwhelmed, is still valuable and I don't need to perform having it together or caring less or being incredibly calm all the time. In fact, that is often just reinforcing kind of ways of being that I'm not fully in line with. I think there's a lot of value in the feeling and the expression of the overwhelming care
