My wish on Autism Awareness Day... #ActuallyAutistic

But we autistics are, and we are creating an environment in society that is far more complex, with far more demands on the human nervous system, on the brain, etcetera, that we were never equipped for, never without assistance in some way we'll never be equipped for. And yet, instead of recognizing the environment we're creating or communicating with, bridging with the other group, aka autistics, then we are continuing down the path of othering more people and pathologizing

And these kind of parents, it's the same thing with other things. Like that second person I mentioned also came up with this whole story that was pretty far fetched about reasons his other child might be gay and then came to me to talk about that

But they don't necessarily know that because again, they are only going to the experts to learn about what their child is struggling with and then they're having their own struggles. And what else do you do but stay within the frameworks of. I don't know how to articulate what I'm thinking here because it's overly complex, but it's. I guess where I'm ultimately heading is I could understand them not asking questions

All of that to say, I think I'm coming around to having some understanding for them because we're all products of our environment and you know, can I really fault them? No, I'm still frustrated by the situation, still concerned about future generations and each one of those little kids, but, and parents too, but to some extent we're all products of the environment. I don't know what my point is. I'm all over the place. My brain has gone mushrooms
