How do I modify my expectations WITHOUT starting at zero?

And another thing I should add is that the way that my brain works when I'm having strong emotions, I have to address them rationally. If I can reason my way through it, it automatically dissolves the emotions. Obviously not all the time. And it all depends on what it is that I'm feeling and for whatever reason. But I know from past experience that this is one of those times when if I can reason my way through it, then it will dissolve

You want to do that like, okay. And then you get tired, you don't see the results, so you quit or you listen to music, and then that gets you up for a couple of days, and then before you know it, the music is not doing anything and you're done working out. You have to fall in love with the journey and the work and the process and just the maelstrom of this experience. And if the reward is good, then it's sweet

If you tell me that you write and you enjoy writing, then I can understand that about you and work with that, right? If someone tells me that they're righteous and holy and chosen and so on, and whatever other language they're using, that automatically creates this hierarchy of better than other people and at the top of the heap, right?
@SeekingPlumb

@RoosterCollins (2/2)

And I think to some extent social and human interaction is about predicting expecting so that we can have safe interactions and it's almost like if they're so concerned about being perceived as or described as holy righteous, whatever then they're not going to be honest with themselves alone with anyone else and then it's from that perspective it's better to not interact with them

So that sort of thing. That sort of thing. And then Jesus shows up in the halfway point, the intermission, if you will, does a bunch of stuff and then people write about that. And then we spent the last 2000 years arguing about that stuff when if you take a look around Jews, Muslims and Christians and Catholics, blah, blah, blah, that's a weird thing

And from a space of control in comparison to the spirituality, where it's more of using the power within to create the life you desire to walk in your purpose, to be of service to others, so on and so forth. And so when you have. Let's just look at the foundation of Christianity. I'm just going to use Christianity as an example, because that's my faith. It's almost as though from that foundation, there are two paths that people tend to go on

There's got to be all these people that spread this message, the good news, and it's all rooted in one moment in time, and that's the pentecost, when everyone gathers around, and all of a sudden, these ideas, these very, at the time, very complex ideas of wealth not being all things and enslaving people and conquering and all these things that men should learn. That's all that Christ is, is. He's the example for all men. That's the idea

And you can learn it watching Tony Soprano. You can see it in storytelling. You can see the shift in storytelling in early 2000, when Tony Soprano became the world's first superstar antihero. Because Tony Soprano is a dastardly evil character, but you root for him every step of the way. And that is the embodiment of this idea, is that criminals become criminals. Tony Soprano is not a murderer

Like I said, I've been a liberal for a long, long time. And I honestly. Happy holidays. Xmas, Starbucks. It's a capitalist thing. Santa Claus can honestly drop dead. I don't care. I'm done with capitalist, consumerist Christmas. I don't give a shit for a little bit. When I first moved up here, I worked as an Uber driver, and it was Christmas time, and it was snowing

@RoosterCollins

Don't quote me on that because my brain thinks in visuals and that's the visual I have in my head. But it could be like, from my understanding, Jesus perspective was not from any sort of power dynamics or appearances, but instead a relating from one human to another. And yet, let's say the modern day sadducees

@Her_Sisu

Really, really appreciate this, JL, that the way that you've broken it down, the spiritual and the religious and the ego and control. And I don't know if you said this, but I feel like you did. Maybe low self esteem or a feeling of smallness, let's say. And it really fits for me. I think this is weird too, right? If I come across somebody that

And you're like, holy shit, I'm going to follow this guy until I'm just going to trust him because he knows something that I don't know. And that's what Jesus was. And if you look at that representation of Jesus being the guru, of gurus, getting down on the people that have been milling about, following him, being like, this is the Messiah. This is God incarnate

But if you notice throughout history, especially in the Catholic Church, when you go back to where Catholic Constantine and all that catholic church formed, it's like, yeah, Peter, Mary, Mary's a saint. Mother Mary's a saint. But it's really a discount. Women and their contributions to Christianity have been discounted every step of the way. That's why there's no female. Where is Mary Magdalene's gospel? Where is it? Why isn't it part of it?
@SeekingPlumb

@RoosterCollins

But I don't think those are the same stories because I seem to remember Mary Magdalene doing it in someone else's home. Maybe. I don't remember. Anyway, so I realized I squished those together. Something else. Oh, the dao te ching. You know what? I have heard bits and pieces somebody once did sometime over the last three years or so, someone did read snippets of that and then elaborated their own thinking around it

And that is Jesus revealing his divinity to a samaritan woman. And then she is just elated because he just looks at her and tells her everything about her life. And she's just blown away. And she runs back to Samaria. And like, he told me everything I knew. Yeah, that's her bag. And then, yeah, like I said, this is in the chosen is a wonderful. The washing of the feet

And of course, everything that my friend says, because my friend is a devout, he's a devout Christian, and he's very religious. And everything he says, I'm just like, shut up. I don't care. Just the other day, I had to hang up on him because he wanted to talk about Paul. He wanted to question Paul with me. I was like, really, man? At this point in our friendship, yeah

If we are of certain faith and even if we aren't now, that journey allows for reflection, for creating space, for introspection, for whatever way we decide to worship or not worship or pray or whatever now, those dynamics are extremely personal to an individual, and how they reconcile those in their minds will be very different from how you do or I do. Right?

And not everybody obviously operates that way, which is fine. We can each do our own thing. And so when this particular group, for example, claims some sort of a superiority, that is how they frame the world and see themselves and see themselves in relation to other people. But that doesn't change anything for how I see the world or how I see myself or other people. And as much as I have difficulty with that stance, it obviously offers them value in some way
