"Wrong" - Author Shilpa Suraj in conversation

article image placeholderUploaded by @Wordsmith
Shilpa is an avid reader with a passion for creative writing and storytelling and used to participate in writing competitions at school and also dabbled in copywriting for an ad agency as a teenager. She has 20 years of experience in the corporate world, including a stint in corporate communications at Google India and a spell at entrepreneurship, all of which hold her in good stead for her multiple current roles of author, mother and head of HR and public relations at an architecture and interior design design firm. Welcome Shilpa

It's all in the lens through which you view it and the justification that your mind and heart comes up with. So when you read my book Wrong, you'll realize that each of the characters in it take certain decisions based on what they are thinking, feeling at that moment. Whether it comes from guilt, whether it comes from their own sense of morality, or whether it just comes from the heart

Thank you, Shilpa, for that response. And I'm very much able to understand since I did read the book. So it all falls into place for me. Now, my second question is when was that moment that you discovered the hidden romance author renew?

@Wordsmith

So to be honest, I'm a person who always read a lot of romance. I read all kinds of books, of course, but romance always appealed to me for the escapist nature of it. So there is a lot of I like to read a book which leaves me with a happy feeling and what better than when it ends in unhappily ever after? So that is when I used to read a lot

Oh, this wonderful straight from the heart. Do you believe that the romance genre is only for a particular age group or otherwise?

@Wordsmith

I don't believe that it is for a particular age group as you get older. But of course, when we are talking children, it isn't appropriate for them based on the content that you have. Of course, there are sweeter romances for, say, the teenagers in the 1617, the young adult romances that you read. One of my favorites is Mirror Miraba and Lip Wajid

Shepherd. How do you manage to keep the writer in you thriving, besides focusing on a corporate career and being a handson mom?

So to be honest, there is a lot of juggling involved. Of all the responsibilities that I sort of have on my shoulders, I would definitely say that some days I managed to keep all the balls up in the air but most days one or the other will land on my head and give me a tight wrap. But definitely my daughter is top priority, followed by my day job. And I do find time to write around it because that is my passion

Thank you for that candid response. Shilpa, could you read us a few lines from Wrong? And with that, I'd like to wrap up this interview. And thank you for coming on. I'm sharing a link to the book here for our listeners to go on and purchase the book online. It is a must read. Do read the book and come back with questions if you have any for Shilpa. Thank you and good night

Thank you, Srijah, for having me. And, yes, I would love to read a very tiny excerpt from Wrong before I leave. This is a scene where Arna finally confronts Ananya about having left him for his brother. And this is where we are at. Arna walked up to where Ananya stood in frozen silence, crowding her until she backed up against the wall. He he leaned forward and braced his hands on either side of her. But you didn't
