article image placeholderUploaded by @Wordsmith
Moi Three is a dog lover and a coffee addict and enjoys reading, watching cricket matches and solving crosswords. She currently lives in Kolkata. Welcome to Zurupas. Well, cast moi three. Moy Three. As a writer, you embrace the detective genre for your early books. Can you share a bit about the journey towards Trinity?

You. Hi. Yes, sure. And thank you so much for the kind introduction. Srija so, three nayani is my first attempt at writing a story based on a real life character. And she's just not any other character. She is, after all, through a local Tarini Baby, india's first known serial killer who went on a killing spree in the 19th century in Kolkata. So creating this character was definitely not easy

How challenging was it for you to weave this story, which is set in the 1870s? And how long did you research for the book? How long did your research work actually take?

Interesting questions. So creating the backdrop of 19th century Calcutta was not difficult, I would say, because as a student of history, and especially as someone who loves reading up on the Indian national movement, I actually enjoyed read reading a story which was set in the post 1857 British Calcutta. However, finding information on ToLokyo was extremely challenging. So I did extensive research

Your protagonist in this book is on the bad side of law, unlike the others who were on the good side. So was it a deliberate attempt to explore the psyche of a protagonist from the other end of the spectrum?

@Wordsmith

Yes, you can say that. I like writing psychological thrillers and studying the minds of characters or diverse characters intrigues me. So while my detective character milyre is totally different from 300 MOITs, them are completely black and white. So I am interested in exploring these gray shades hidden in characters when I write their stories. Also, I enjoy writing antagonist characters. So even in my mileage series of books, the antagonists always have a meet a role to play

Threnayani was a living, breathing, reallife character. While there are records of incidents involving her, there never was a reference point for her transformation from a nave child widow to a hardened criminal. How did you draw inspiration to define the arc of her character?

I completely agree with you on this. So Trelloko, the lady on whom Tinani is based, was a real person and yes, very little information is available about her, you know, growing up yours. There's there's no information on her childhood at all. From the the periodical son known as Dharuga Doctor, written by Prionath Mukopadai, the Indian detective Daruga, who nabbed this notorious serial killer, we get some information about her adolescent yearles and how she was sold off to a brothel

Thank you so much for sharing these interesting perspectives, you know, around the process itself. It was a delight to host this conversation on the Rubus webcast, and thank you for your time. And I am sharing a link here for our listeners so that they order a copy of the book
