rspillane & jt's intro to podcasting

JT, welcome. So what I did is I made a thread for us, our Splain and JT intro themselves to podcasting. So I know you and myself have talked about podcasting over the last so many weeks, last 20 months. We talked about it a little bit last year, and when I came across the Swell app, I thought, well, this could be a cooperative for a few reasons. One is that there's a lower commitment to getting on camera because it's just audio

rspillane poses a question for jt to get us started

Okay. So, JT, my question to pose for us to get started is no surprise. It has to do with content. I know I tease the idea that if we were going to do this thread yesterday, that we would have a thread about the Super Bowl. But personally, I'm more interested in talking about content as an industry as a whole, but I want to get your take on it. So here's my question

@rspillane

I kind of worded that wrong, but what I'm going going with is when I think of personal branding, I think of right now, I think of athletes who get slack from the boomers for maybe doing things that aren't in the same or best interest for the team, but for themselves. And I understand that it's a touchy subject for a lot of people because a lot of people feel like, oh, it's a team. You got to win championships

@jarettutzauer

So, yeah, let me know if that makes sense. But the other two parts actually you had mentioned with the poker vlogging, I thought that was really interesting because what I've been finding with personal branding in specific industries is that it kind of falls into the entrepreneur principle of not asking for permission, but asking for forgiveness. Because with certain things, if it's not traditional, if it's not tried and true, if you go to ask someone, oh, hey, can I do this?

And they know with his following they're going to fill up that poker room for a couple of days and those hundreds of people who meet up with him there are going to spend money on stay and food and it'll bring in money for the casino. Maybe not gambling, but their odds are they'll play black jack, you'll play sports bets. Like they're just bringing people to the casinos

But I'm still interested in it intrigues me, the poker vlogging, because I think we talked about this JT, but I myself, I'm not a huge gambler. However, last year I actually went to first time going to Vegas but I ended up going to Vegas three times. But hear me out, the first time was for one of my buddies that didn't get his work visa. So it was one of his last weekends in the US

But one of the new things I tapped into is this group of guys I found that I mentioned to you briefly, and they create content around solo entrepreneurship, and they preach the term the new rich. And it's all about getting your business off the ground and then outsourcing your outreach. Outsourcing. Say you have a service based business. You can outsource your customer service teams

@jarettutzauer re: vimeo link https://s.swell.life/STVnnpHxP6JO6A1

That's like a translation that you take old, old information and once it passes through your personality, it's going to be delivered differently. It's very unlikely it's going to be a carbon copy because just the way we process information and filter through information, it just made me think of how content has been reused and recycled over the years. But the five minute mark on Swell, I'll cap that. And I'll cap this vimeo video as well

Like, this is the way you make an a livable salary. You'll have more freedom than anybody else you know, your age, and are you making more money than them? So this is the way. And to me, I interpret that in my brain as the new rich. And I guess I projected that as the new rich. But to your point, yes, I heard the new rich term first in Tim Ferriss's four Hour work week. It's funny you caught that

However, with Tim Ferris, he seems to be very analytical, purposeful, intentional, but I find he's not the most entertaining podcast host. So I will revisit his podcast when there's someone that I find really intriguing on it. So I remember a few years ago, Hugh Jackman was on the Tim Ferris Podcast and I was like, oh, I got to listen to this one because I really like Hugh Jackman and he was probably doing a podcast tour that time

@jarettutzauer capping off my most previous Swell with a Question here for you JT

It could be even, I think, somewhere between 20 and ten minutes, as I mentioned, as a way to continue working up the rungs of the ladder. So what would be a topic, a theme, a series of questions that you would be interested in exploring in what I'm calling is a long form episode, a long form podcast episode, even if it's as short as ten minutes long
@jarettutzauer
Jaret Tutzauer
@jarettutzauer · 1:22

@rspillane

So there's several different routes we could go in my opinion. I know we could talk for instance, we talk sports, we could talk like self help, we could talk entrepreneurship, we could talk content, we can talk about a ton of things and just see where the conversation goes in my opinion. Because even like in your kitchen the other day we talk for like two 2 hours pretty fluently I would say about just a various different topics

@jarettutzauer for remote ep tomorrow, bring headphones, downloadVimeoRecord on ChromeWebStore and Download https://reincubate.com/camo/ on comp+cell

This setup is a helpful remote set up anyway, so I thought it'd be useful for some listeners and viewers to just grab the links on their own and do the same thing. So for context, I'm going to have jt using vimeo record from the Google Chrome Web Store extension store, and then Camo by reincubate to turn his phone into his computer webcam. And then we're going to record the audio extravideo stream on software called Riverside. So that's the tech stack for us tomorrow

if youd like to listen in on me and JT recording an ep live tomorrow morning 9am EST https://riverside.fm/studio/jtradio

Not quite done with me yet. So I'm actually what I'm going to do, jt, is I'm going to take the riverside link, the audience link, and I'll put it in The swell here. I'm going to text the guest link separately to you. And this way, if anyone on The swell cast wants to join, we're planning to record at 09:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time tomorrow. So plan to go from nine no later than 930
