And the race was so successful that it became an annual event and their Nehru Trophy was introduced in 1952 to commemorate a visit by India's first prime minister, Javar La Nehru. So now a little bit about these boats. They are long and sleek and I think they would easily be 100ft or maybe more. And each boat can accommodate 100 rowers
