#AskSwell - How do you imagine utopia?

article image placeholderUploaded by @rocio
So I did a little digging and I read that utopia comes from Greek, from the Greek meaning no place, nowhere. So the whole concept of utopia is based on it never existing. And here's where it gets interesting, because we're talking about utopias, our personal imagining of what a utopia is, but we can never get to it. So what is the point? What is the power of having these lengthy conversations, imagining better worlds? And, well, there's the answer, right

What exists in your perfect world? #AskSwell #WithRo

So curves, rounded, organic, no symmetry necessarily, but also then it incorporating greenery, the sounds of water. And then somehow or another, that building can, let's say, blossom. It can unfold, unfurl. It opens up so that we have direct access to sunshine on some days and other days maybe bringing it back in. And so instead of working within the four white walls that are cube room, you can be surrounded by these other things

I remember occupy wall street, which in 2011, and I know occupy wall street can be very polarizing concept for many people, but the little time that I spent down there talking with people, I love the idea of people gathering in a public space and having robust conversations about important issues. It seemed very ideal of what we think about democracy should be of this. People gathering together and having conversation, vigorous conversations. So I think about public spaces, I think about the ability to congregate

And at least the people that I interact with throughout the community when I'm not people that I know personally but just sort of the general population. It seems very difficult for a lot of people to hope that anything can change in the physical world. And I think there's almost like this childlike that magical thinking that comes back to us because it's almost like it's our last hope is to be able to believe in the unbelievable because the believable seems unattainable. So that came up regarding that

I don't know. It's hard to say, but I think a part of utopia could be the gratification of working towards this, of all of us, knowing that we have a stake in this planet and that we care for it together. Yeah, definitely. Nature is huge. Um, taking care of the of the planet is is huge. When I think of Utopia

Oh, yeah. Public spaces. Spaces that are free, that you don't need to buy anything to be in. Yeah, like you said, that there's no expectation or no hope of a product or output. That's huge. The ability like this to freely think and discuss with people

Oh. I love the idea that utopia is allowing the space for people to go on their own journey with reality and with perception. Having the space to explore that and explore that spirituality aspect of life that we often just don't get the chance to. Yeah, really exciting. I like what you're what you're sharing here. I'm going to listen to it again, actually. Thank you
