One of the best books I just recently read was if you tell by Greg Olsen. It's about a family and the mother slowly starts to abuse. Just single out one person in the family to abuse and it gets worse and worse and worse. And then when those kids move out, she singles out a friend and abuses her until she has passed away. She also wound up, I think at the end, being a caretaker for an older gentleman that passed away
