I’m Me Inside (poem)

article image placeholderUploaded by @PoetryByAtalie
I wish someone would tell me why we shed the skin we're born with, to take on the garments that other people wear, no matter how illfitting they are. We seem to go to the ends of the earth to die, if it comes to that. To mend and stitch and reclothe ourselves over and over. For why? Which purpose? What is the idea? We live an entire life attaining the imperfections of others because we don't like ours

#poem a poem about being confident in your own skin. Taken from my first book "On The Edge of a Dream."

It. What a great ending that was so powerful. And I also like this line about the bones crackling in our skin. I was wondering I read the description and I wonder sort of where you were at at this point in your life when you wrote this, because you wrote about being brave enough to come out of our own skin. But a lot of it was either the experience or the idea of not allowing that essence or not having the ability or whatever it is to have that essence come forward

And I would say that is where I was when I was writing that poem, because I feel like the general human experience is very much alike for a lot of people. No matter how different it is for each individual person, it's still alike in the sense that we're all just trying to figure out the best way to be who we are

But when we can ask questions and dig in, we can really connect with each other better and get to know each other better. And I think that's the beauty of art in particular. So your response made me think of two things, though. One is this song by Face Soul, you probably know. It's called empowerment. And basically it talks about with hardship comes ease and that we are together in the experience of hardship and finding positivity, our own unique type of positivity

I just wanted to say that was so powerful and so well written. I was really moved by it. Thank you

For me, for most of my life, I have viewed art and poetry in that way in terms of it being an empowering thing also, and it being just a way to transgress our hardships and our tough moments in life. So that's another thought that I had when listening to that song, because I think that just goes hand in hand with the connective experience. And I think those of us that go down this path possess a precious possession

#me

Are they worth caring? Am I worth sharing? Am I worth caring for? Even if it's rusty, my words still have impact upon myself and those around me. We are born with, we are born to be who we are. And that is absolutely 1000% true. We are born to be who we are and maybe walks a path that discovers and reveals to us with each step, each flower, each blossom, each branch exuding towards the sun's light to continue in their life

You. Excellent message. Very powerful and also very true. We all need to grow into our own skin and quit wearing the skin of others so we can learn on our own. Excellent job
