The Pressure to Support Black-Owned Businesses

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
Maybe they don't. But I do know some very successful businesses that are black owned. And I think that even those that own black business would like to expand their customer or client base outside of the black community. I mean, it's really all about building a business more so than it is staying within our own community. Once upon a time, due to legalized segregation, we had to do that. We had no choice but to support one another because our business wasn't wanted anywhere else

Like, I haven't personally got my nails done in many, many months, since before the summer, just pulling back and saving more money. So now I think in response to that, some hairstylists, specifically braiders, they're charging out the wazoo for braids that were like, wait, I know how much those braids should cost. And they're coming with, well, my time I'm standing on my feet. You got to come with your hair washed, all of that stuff

So if we're going to push people to support black owned businesses, I think we need to push people to well, not push them, but I think that businesses should be more up to par, more up to standards. Because if you do a bad job as a black owned business and people are trying to support you, that puts a lot of pressure on the other businesses to do a spectacular job because you didn't do your job right

And I understand all that, but don't penalize me and charge me three, four times more than what the products cost, because I am a retail owner myself. I had to just quit because my daughter said, mom, stop, because I can't charge you three and four times for what I've paid when I know I've paid maybe $100 for these items, but I'm going to charge you two and $300 more. I can't do it

Hey, SIS, thank you so much for your response. You're right. A lot of these personal care industries are upping their prices because of what they lost during the pandemic when they were considered nonessential businesses and had to stay closed. And a lot of people have just learned either they learned to go without or they've just learned how to do it themselves. I had to learn how to do my own wax scene during the pandemic because the nail shops are closed

She started her own paper products and laundry detergents and cleaning household cleaning products. And I was like, wow, because that's not something that we typically do. And so I was like, wow, that's really exciting. I would definitely try her products. But yes, the service has to be on par

So that would make me want to go back to them, because they are amazing people. They helped each other out. There was no competing for tables and customers and all that stuff. They were helping each other out. They pitched in and did different things. They rang out customers, they brought out food. They filled up drinks. They were just a great group of people. And I would go back just for that alone, because, like I said, the food was okay

Support who you want to support. I've supported people who were black, white, Indian, Asian, black artists, white artists. I mean, gosh. My husband and I, we support a lot of people. So it, you know, and like you said, you're keeping it. You prefer to support locally. And I think that's important because it's good to start with your neighbor, it's good to start with your communities. So, yeah, great topic. Bye

I'll bring the drinks. Do they need food? I'll bring the food. I'll take their order. You need me to take their order over there? It's like they helped each other out, and they were kind and loving to one another. So seeing those things would make me want to come back. That would make me want to come back. Because, like I said, food not so much. But the service out of this world
