"Bed-Rotting": New Tiktok Trend

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
Staying in bed because we're trying to avoid dealing with some of the challenges and adversities that we're facing in our lives. So squellcast. I don't know. Gen gave it a name. Not a very appealing name. Bedrotting doesn't sound very appealing, but we've all done it at some point in our lives, we've all spent a day in bed doing nothing. And that's exactly what Gen Z is doing. Except it's no longer incidental

@Ara70

Hey, Ara, thank you so much for your response. When I first heard bedrotting, I really thought that it was something like a medical condition, because I saw a notification pop up on my phone where they said that a gastroenterologist was giving the signs and symptoms of bedrotting. And so I thought, okay, is bedrotting like a medical condition? Is it a disease or something? But then I saw where it's just a very unappealing name for something that people have been doing for decades

That's why so many people have heart attacks and nervous breakdowns and all these other kind of issues, is because they never take the time to rest. They have issues with their body. Like their physical health starts to decline because they never take time to just sit down and rest, to not do anything. I ain't doing nothing today. I ain't even cooking nothing. I'm about to order some food in. Like, I'm not doing anything today

Because if your life is stressful, I think with Gen Z, part of that has a lot to do with this overstimulation of digital inputs. Because with TikTok and that kind of thing, you have a lot of maybe hundreds of inputs in a day and you don't realize it. But I think that definitely affects how you feel, what you think about. But if you take the time to just pause, yeah, take a walk, take some time for yourself

@LidiasBags

Good morning, Lydia. Thank you so much for your input. You know, when you're young, you think you're going to live forever. You don't really think about your days being numbered on the Earth, even though they are. And so I think with Gen Z, they don't think about how they could use the time to do things that are productive and that would yield them a more pleasant life in their later years. They just think about the here and now

@Andrea_Speaks

It becomes this ritual where every Friday night I just get off work, get in bed, and don't do anything. It's like, okay, I don't think that should be, like, every weekend. I don't think every weekend you should be in bed. I don't think that's a good thing. I don't think that your whole vacation should be spent in bed. That's not a good thing either

It's like, gosh, man, I have no choice but to download all this stuff because this is what you require in order to perform certain job functions. And so I get it. It can definitely be overwhelming. It can be overwhelming. Not even from a social perspective. It can be overwhelming a work perspective as well. So, yes, everything you said was spot on, and thank you so much

And I think that can be dangerous, especially when you have things like TikTok, because every time you turn around, there's a new trend, and some of them are challenges. Some of these challenges are dangerous and life threatening. And then sometimes when we use words, I think we got to be careful how we use words, even though we use them in a slang way. The mind has a way of doing things without your approval, so you got to be careful with it

But I can't say that the most positive things come from TikTok, that TikTok is the place where we should get a lot of positive information. And when things start to become a trend, then everybody has to jump on it. Like, why do we have to call it bedrotting? Just chill out for a day if you need to, if that's what you want to do. If you just want to veg out in front of TV or something, just do what you got to do

So the fact that they felt the need to call it bedrotting is beyond me. But I feel like I've heard that so many terms that already existed. I feel like I've heard people try to assign new terms with things that already existed before. And it's like, what's the purpose? What's the point? Are you trying to trend? I don't get it
