Efficent Workers Get Rewarded with More Work

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
I would switch back and forth between the two areas so as they seen how smart I was back then and how much of a quick learner I was and how reliable I was, because in the restaurant industry, those traits are generally rare. They wanted to cross train me in other areas, so they started teaching me things like how to check out people's orders, how to cash out people's tickets

Somebody calls out and there's a chance for you to get some extra hours. It's definitely going to be the worker that knows those skills, but you got to make it work for you. I've been in that place so many times, but I use it to promote myself because I've learned if you sit and wait for a job to necessarily see you and promote you, it ain't going to happen

I must admit this one was weird to me because I was thinking to myself, well, if you took on more task and you got a raise for it, therefore it signified why you wanted to take on more task. And it's with any blue collar industry job or I guess even white collar. If you do your work in a proficient way then naturally more work will come your way. It almost seems as if you want to become higher management

But sometimes people put work on you because they don't want to do it, but they want to take the credit. No, we don't do that. So that being said, it's easier to because when you work for yourself, you're working right. People who have their own business, you're adding more stuff to your plate. You are HR, you are the marketing department. You are everything. You're the one stop shop when it's your own

This was years ago in a restaurant, coincidentally, just like yourself, and I embraced having more work. I created a situation where more work was given to me, and it was the pastry chef that had quit. And instead of hiring another pastry chef, the duties of the pastry chef were distributed throughout the kitchen. And nobody really wanted to do that. They had their own task to do. But I embraced it

Or a lot of times, you got to have a bachelor's or whatever, right. Or you may need a master's. So there are these levels that you have to climb before you can even, I guess, get promoted. There's really no promotions. You can't just learn how to do the job and get promoted to CEO. They only want a certain amount of people to even get into these levels of positions. I don't care how smart you are
