Woman Says Black Women wear Wigs Because They Look Masculine With Natural Hair

A lot of it has to do with lack of hydration and moisture in our hair. A lot of it has to do with us using heat on our hair. A lot of it has to do with us using quote unquote protective styles, which we claim will help our hair to grow because it's going to rest. Your hair is not really resting. You're pulling it into braids. You're sewing tracks into it. You're wearing wigs. It's not a protective style

I was trying to do it on my own. So my hair started breaking, and I know why my hair was breaking and things like that, but it grows. Even under the wigs, it grows, but I'm trying to break away from them and let it grow. Like, literally just get away from them and let it grow out. So I don't wear them

I've had wigs, I've had braids, I've had everything. Never had to worry about anybody saying I look like a man. And so when I first big chopped my hair and had a low fade, my hair was like that for a long time. I would say I had my hair like that. For at least two years. I think it was about two or three years before I braided my hair for the first time since going natural
