#AskSwell How old is too old to become a mother?

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
I do know that when women's bodies are ready for menopause, then it's a process that you really can't stop. And I believe that's what the case was with the woman in the stories, that she was so close to menopause that her eggs were probably just not suitable for fertilization. So I see mothers that become mothers later in life in their forty s and sometimes around 50. I know that medically speaking, after 35 you're considered a high risk pregnancy simply because of your age

Ahead. Hi Tanya. Good question. So for me, because I had my first child at 19 and my second one at 35, I knew I was done then. And at 35, yes, this it, they being my medical team made me feel so old because I was a geriatric pregnancy and they wanted to test me for everything under the sun because of my age and scared me half to death at 35. So I already knew there was not going to be any other babies after that

It's. The timing of this specific swell and this specific topic could not be more perfect. I just want you to know I've been thinking about this myself personally a lot and here's my opinion. I don't think that there's like a wrong or right answer. Here's what I would say. And this comes from a person who had a child and is a single mother. I've been a single mother from the very get go

But you don't want to live with that energy of regret that I wish I had been a mother. I wish I had been a wife. I wish I had had my own family. Someone to leave this beautiful abundance to. Someone to call my legacy. Right? And I agree with you. I don't believe it's my place to say someone is either too young or too old to have a child. I am a single parent myself, so I don't wish single parenthood on anybody

Sometimes I see people, and they're on the third, 4th, or fifth baby with their husband, and I think, man, how safe and secure do you have to be to keep having babies with someone? I wasn't in that situation. My ex husband had some issues, and he even filed for divorce when I was pregnant. And, yeah, I remember him texting me and asking me the due date again. So, what's the due date again?

It's. I feel like with that situation, God, one is not gonna put on you what you cannot bear. So hey, he said multiply and be fruitful. So if you 40 50 and you still got it, you still got it. Hey, long as you could take care, that's all that matters. And they get the best love possible. Yeah

Both the child and the mother is healthy. So when we have the audacity to give a birth to another little one in the world we have all kind of emotions controlled in us. We can face anything that's what is a mother? A mother is a teacher, a doctor, an engineer, a tailor. What not is mother. Actually. Mother is first in the world than anything else. Nobody can replace that charming word or that relationship. Age is not the criteria

They talk about the contrast between parenting in your 20s versus parenting in your forty s, and it's a lot different, aside from them just not having as much physical strength to get up in the middle of the night and take care of a baby in their 40s

There used to be a time when having a baby truly was a family affair. And the family was involved with helping to rear this child, with helping to care for this child. It was really something that the family enjoyed together. A new baby was a joy for the entire family. But now, especially in the United States, we live in such an individualistic society that people have babies and they go home to take care of their babies

And and you're right, you don't want that to be a regret where you passed up the opportunity to be a mother or you just never focused your life in the direction of marriage and motherhood and things like that. And some women, they get so career oriented. I know Star Jones is a great example of this as well, because Star Jones got married in her 40s

But to give birth at such an old age, there's many factors involved with that. Even though there are people who are doing that, even though there are women who are having children at 48 and 50 and things like that. The one thing that a lot of them have in common is their income. I heard that IVF is very expensive. Very expensive because of the type of procedure that it is
