Colin Kaepernick: What’s Going On?
And so the NFL organized a special workout just for Colin so that he could show off his throwing skills and could work out in front of scouts from all 32 teams. But Colin was not happy with the workout that the NFL set up. And so he decided to arrange his own workout, choosing his own school and choosing the people that he wanted to assist with the workout. And seven scouts from NFL teams attended. And so after that, nobody picked up Colin

He didn't think long term how this could possibly affect his NFL career because although it's freedom of expression it's covered under his First Amendment rights so he didn't break a law or anything like that. There wasn't even an NFL rule against what he did

He was, I don't know, third string, if that's the right term. He wasn't a big name until the controversy and so he wasn't that great of a player. And so when the controversy kind of erupted that he was being punished or penalized for taking the knee, a lot of folks were saying, no, he just can't play. That's why he's not getting picked

But in his second year, Alex Smith got hurt. Colin Kaepernick comes in and he shines. He was taking the league by storm. He was dynamic running and passing the football. And when Alex Smith came back from injury, there was a quarterback controversy. Colin Kaepernick wins out and he takes the San Francisco 49 ers to the Super Bowl that year. So as far as being a quarterback in the NFL, he did what few have done and actually took a team to the Super Bowl

Hey SIS. Thank you so much for your response. You're right. There are a lot of identity issues going on here. And by Colin not only being mixed race but also being adopted, he has two different sets of identity issues, racial and familial identity, both of those having been lost to him. And so I'm sure that he has grown up with a lot of questions about everything concerning his existence. Where did I come from? Who are my parents, who birthed me even?

And so I think unfortunately he burned a lot of bridges with some of the things he said about the NFL, the owners, and so these owners don't want to be a part of whatever he's involved in and they don't want him to bring unnecessary and negative publicity to their particular franchise

Hi, Phil. Thank you so much with me knowing nothing about football. I definitely appreciate people who know as much as you do and the ins and outs, and it makes a lot more sense than me looking from the outside in, and I heard he wasn't a good player. But thank you so much for that. I appreciate the response

So if they're Tom Brady, who has six Super Bowl rings, been to eight Super Bowls, they're going to say that about him. They're going to say that about anybody. And so I'm really not surprised that you heard that. Anytime you hear critique of an NFL quarterback, take it with a grain of salt. Too many armchair quarterbacks in this world

Well, it's a dream come true. It's a dream come true. Not everyone get to play in the NFL or the NBA or other prominent sports. A lot of people sign up for it, but a lot of people don't make it

If the NFL is anything like he portrayed it to be publicly, why in the world would anybody want to go back to something like that? If anything, his heart should be grieving over the guys that are still in the NFL because he's enlightened to something that maybe they don't see, but yet he wants to go back and be amongst them, which, to me, that's hypocritical in a lot of ways. But thank you so much

If you want your cause to matter, just get out there and take a knee. That was actually a War vet that told him, you know, I just think the topic has largely been hijacked by the flag and the taking of the knee when actually he was just trying to bring attention to police brutality. And myself, who watches football every Sunday, every Saturday when we're talking college football
