#askswell | What is something weird you believed as a child?

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
And that's what I believed for a long time, because I didn't know. And I didn't even think to ask my mom. I didn't even think to ask her. What do they do with that? And what happens? I didn't even think to ask her. But I really believed that for a long time that, yeah, the placenta just gets shoved back up in there somehow, and it just stays there until the next baby comes and that's what happens

How cool would that be? It's kind of cool. Kind of weird. Anyway, I really, really like this. Mine were not nearly as entertaining. I did not know that I was autistic, and I took many things quite literally. So the spider plant, I thought that was where spiders came from. Never wanted to go near it, although my mom loved that plant. The Story of Pinocchio. I remember I was older than grade eight

And as we're walking and of course, I'm walking with my brother, so you can imagine the horse play and the things like that. And I think I remember one time we were trying to get through a narrow part of the sidewalk, and he's, like, shoving me, and he almost shoved me into a telephone pole. And I lost it. I said, you're trying to kill me? And he's like, what are you talking about?

And I came up with something that may not necessarily be considered weird, but it certainly has some humor to it, having the hiccups, which is something that is really annoying and very uncomfortable and is just something that no one really likes. So I remember you was even told that you can have the hiccup scared out of you. Like, I guess if someone scares you and then if you drink a lot of water

So up until I was probably 1112 years old, I thought that Tampax were some kind of magical thing that allowed you to ride horses, swim better, can't remember what the other go hiking. The commercials were never ending as a child. I'm also the same kid who, during my mother's Avon party, was playing Battleship with her her pads. I was using them as ships because eventually they fill up with water and sink. Good morning

Wait. You mean they didn't tell you that babies came from coconut trees? That's what I was told as a child, and I believed it

It. This had me cracking up. Especially the part about riding horses. I can't stop laughing

And each of the legs of the ride was a seat, and it could fit two people, and it would spin you around. All its little arms would spin you around and everything. And I remember it play this day. It was like a little black ride that each arm had a seat, and you could just yeah. So anything that has spider in it, I'm like, yeah, I don't want any parts of that at all because I don't like spiders at all

Hey, SIS. This was so funny. I used to think the same thing. I used to think that telephone poles would electrocute you or shock you or anything with power lines, anything like that. I thought that, oh, Lord, if you touch it, you're going to get shocked. And like you, I think I just discovered on accident one day that that was not the case

This isn't cool. But yeah, that's what old school moms would do. I don't know, maybe new school moms do it, too. But yeah, that's what they would do. But the hiccup thing is funny, I used to hate getting the hiccups, but then I remember growing up and people would say, if you got hiccups, that means you're growing. That's a sign that you're growing, is that you got hiccups

I think that was one of the things that made me want to use that product, was that, wow, it absorbs things, and you don't have to worry about feeling any of it. It just slurps it all up. It's just so amazing to me. But, yeah, the Tampax commercials, there's nothing you can do. You're unstoppable when you're wearing that tampon. I tell you what, you are unstoppable according to those commercials

Isn't it so cute the things our parents tell us in our innocence to preserve our innocence? They don't want us to know how babies are actually created and the process of a pregnancy and a childbirth in all of its glory. So they spare us by telling us that Storks are dropping us off on the doorstep and that we come from coconut trees. And they try to keep it so sweet and simple so that our innocence is not tampered with. They don't want to tamper with our innocence

It's. Wow. I am just amazed that you talked to someone that was born in the 18 hundreds. Like, I can't even when I even think back through my lineage, even to my great grandmama, she wasn't born in the 18 hundreds. I'm trying to think trying to do the math from the time she passed. I think she was born in, like, 1911 or something like that. Definitely not in the 18 hundreds
