How Do You Define Success?

article image placeholderUploaded by @MarleyMusarra
Hello swell people. Good morning. Or at least it's morning for me where I'm at. I am popping in today to talk about success and defining success. I've been thinking about it for myself a lot recently, in recent years, recent months, all of that, and talking to people in my life and for some they have never actually sat down to define success. So first of all, just asking, have you ever really taken the intentionality or time to define success?

And I feel like just as a kid, I was just so driven by money, which is kind of weird, but I just thought that was the end goal in life, was to make as much money as you can, and that was really all there was to it. But obviously that's not the case. But yeah, getting older definitely made me change my perspective on that. And now there are so many different things to it

Hey, thanks for the prompt. This is a really great question. I think, to me, at this point in my life, success is based around feeling peace as often as possible. And that comes from security, freedom from great relationships, great experiences, great moments strung together. Just anything that helps make me feel at peace as I often as possible, I'd say, is success to me. Look forward to seeing your masterclass. That sounds exciting

Because if you don't have those, it's very difficult to have the energy or space to really work on a lot of those psychological needs, and especially the self actualization. And I really think we can work on them in tandem. But if you don't have food and water and safety, you really can't focus on much else. And that's definitely been my experience

I've always define success as if you can find your purpose in life and become excellent at your purpose and then give that away to others, that will enable you to find the fruit of your purple switch ends up being success. And I'm not saying that necessarily means money for me. Success is how many people can I bring along with me?

I really want something that pushes my boundaries in the envelope of what I'm able to do and my skills and abilities. And two, I come out like learning something, yes, but realizing I just am such a better person because of it. That's something that I really try and live by. I try and say all the time everything that happens and every experience you go through is making you into the person that you're meant to become

Like, financial success or meaning in life? Or something like that was the question. And it just got me thinking about it usually 1718. And I'm so happy that that was the case. I didn't end up going to either of those schools that had those essays, but nonetheless, it just got me in that mindset, and I'm so grateful for it. So it sounds like you had a similar experience, however it came up for you. But again, thanks for sharing

Like our outside circumstances are always forever changing, and sometimes we have very little control over them. But what we do have control over is our own thoughts and emotions and our inner world. So we can choose peace, regardless of what the world's outside of this looks like. So thank you

But also definitely struck me as very important. The study that showed that the correlation of finances and happiness and basically that link past a certain point. Like. More money does equal more happiness and contentment in life. Past that point that you were referring to. Like. Being able to provide for yourself those basic baseline needs. But then after that. More wealth stopped correlating with happiness. It kind of just flattened out and didn't make a difference

But I feel for myself now that I do have a strong, for lack of a better word, identity with a purpose or I've discovered what I feel will be my purpose. Now, success is very much intermingled with that and I agree. I think the finances kind of just get to be a beautiful byproduct of you doing what you love and care about in life. I would like to believe that everyone does have a divine purpose, a dharma in this lifetime

Skydiving I took on for a while as a sport. So that definitely helped me ride my edge and just continue to overcome fear after fear after fear and show myself that doing things that I didn't think that I could. I was actually creating this new version of who I was and what I was capable of. And I think. Yeah

And in my dad's case, he comes from a third world country and grew up in the say that his family and he struggled out there would be a very serious understatement. And when he moved here, there was a portion of his life where he was literally homeless, sleeping on bus benches, working odd jobs just to get by, to do what he could for his son, my older brother, that he had at the time

I guess privilege and yeah. Just something I thought about and still think about. There was the utmost gratitude for that and still is that I think for my future family I would want to kind of create some in between balance where the kids still have that taste of reality, I guess. And that was my reality and I know that was what my parents and dad wanted and chose to do for us kids. So yeah, not to be taken lightly. So thanks for pointing that out

For me, one of the most important pieces of success for me is living life, whether it's personal or career life as I had intended and also life as I had at least attempted, given the plans I had put in place. It's who you become in the process of realizing this. Progressive, which is the key word which shows a forward movement progressive realization every time I realize the plan that I had put in place, for me, that is success

Gaining trust and understanding of each other, being able to work collaboratively in an environment takes a lot of strength in relationships that help us achieve more. Again, those are long term goals. So I might have a student come back to me three years later. Five years later, ultimately successful would be ten and 15 years later, still in contact, staying in touch. Because you didn't just teach that individual something. You just didn't move them through a grade and move them on

But remembering that whatever marker of success that I might be using today to define that for me and have me moving fully in my power and my energy in that doesn't have to stay the same next week. Next year. Or ten years from now. It can look different because different things have happened. I've invited different things into my universe, so to speak, so success can look different and feel different, and it's changeable according to me and my power of activation, right?

Well, thank you so, so much for this thorough response. I'm trying to regather the exact quote. It was like the realization of a worthy ideal or something like that. I should have written it down, but that was great. Yeah. I think, of course, versions of us are going to continue to grow and grow and grow and change and transform with time and yeah. As you reach one peak, the next one is uncovered. There is a healthy way to do that

But nonetheless, she's like, you go take care of you. You do what you need to do. And she taught me a lot just by who she was and how she interacted more than anything else. And those are the educators that I remember, those who felt like people and not just educators, just to kind to give you my outlook from the opposite perspective of those who made a difference for me. Thanks

Not only are things going to change over time, but I also think for me it's important to also always hold both my current goals and definitions for success as well as what I seek out in the future, like even five and ten years from now. Because I think if I were only focusing on those future goals or versions of success, I would end up feeling a lot of defeats and not enoughness

Yeah. Rachel, thank you so much for sharing this outlook on the intangible things, because I think I think that's a lot with manifesting and bringing things into reality and what might my goals and visions are is really I don't choose a goal because of what's tangible about it. I choose it based on the intangible emotions that would be underlying it. So, for example, why is one of my goals to have a spiritual community? It's like self sustaining community
