How to publish a book?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Lokigen
All these things I'm curious about, and I have a strong feeling that many of you writers out there have done this and you have some sort of technique, some sort of way to go about getting your work out there and seen. And really, honestly, I think that's the main part of it is just getting the art out there and exposed. So how to publish a book is my question

I am a new writer and was wondering how to go about publishing a book?

And it did so well that he was making so much money. When a publisher finally did reach out and they were like, we want to promote you and print your books, of course that's exactly what he wanted. But he made sure to hang on to the digital rights so that he could continue publishing his own Kindles because he was making so much money per month. It was ridiculous. And so that's how he got started. Hugh oh, my goodness

I never thought to do something like that. To break up the book itself into like three or four parts and release it slowly, get the people hooked on it, start off low. The novella that I have on Amazon, I think it's $0.99 or a dollar 99. I know it's free on Kindle. I had no plans to make any money with it. It was more for me to do it as an accomplishment. But I do love this idea

Know your target audience for your manuscript

And that can be a little expensive at times. I would just say at this stage, since you're asking the question, my advice would be start doing your research, start figuring out what the next steps are. There are tons of websites out there that help you. Blogs just type up stuff. Amazon is a good place to go for books to start looking how to get stuff published. I'm sure there's great books there. I can't remember anything top of my head

Hello, mahoney. I'm Shafali, and I think I might have some answers, something to contribute to this discussion. I would like to tell you that I've never been traditionally published. I've never tried it because I always thought that it would require a lot of dedication and a lot of hard work to even send my queries out. And I thought that self publishing could be easier

When you are self publishing, there is this tendency to ignore the COVID because Amazon says, okay, we've got a library of covers and you can select which one we want to use. And a lot of first time authors do that. They just use those covers. I think that is one of the biggest mistakes a good first time author does

In anything that you're trying to sell, know who you're going to sell it to. So all good stuff. And then your favorite writers. That was also very good. I didn't even think about that. Look at your favorite writers and see what they have on their web pages. All very good stuff. Thank you so much for this

I do have a little bit of a reading group online as well as a group of friends down in Loretto that are avid readers. A couple of them are also writers, so I definitely have plans to have them do a little bit of reading. Like I said, my manuscript is not finished editing yet. I tend to go through and just put everything down on paper and then go back chapter by chapter and sort of clean it up. But I do love everything that you've shaved here

@Lokigen Traditional publishing

They will make you prepare a list of publishers you want to ideally be published by, and then they will start pitching your book. If multiple publishers show interest, there is an auction where they bid for your book and offer marketing spend details and things like that. And then you get to decide what you want. And then finally your book goes into what is referred to as developmental editing. Then you get the galleys, which is the final copy of your book. You can see it and make suggestions

@Lokigen The other three

Now, one disclaimer I'll give you the only books that are allowed for like critics awards and all the bigger awards and things like that are traditionally published books at this point in time. They don't allow self vanity or hybrid published books into any serious literary competitions. So if you're trying to get published for that thought leadership, that branding and things like that, you can go for self vanity, hybrid

And because self publishing is cheaper, much more accessible and doesn't really have any, I suppose, snobs guarding the gate, right? So you can have chapter of your book title a butterfly. That better not be my dead sister. And nobody is going to question that choice. They will. Let it be. And you see something that you're like, oh yeah, this is my wife, I'm going to check it out. So you get access to more democratized literature

@Binati_Sheth

You can't break a book up into five parts if there's not enough enticement to stay with it for the next part. Otherwise, it falls flat, and then people might stop in the middle of the book. But anyway, thank you so much for all of the detailed information you gave for the different ways of publishing. I mean, if in some world, the future I decide I want to write something, this was incredibly helpful, and I hope he finds it as helpful. Thank you

It wasn't until the sun was grown and I was sort of on my own that I decided to start pursuing my actual dream and passion of being a writer. My mother is a prolific reader. My sister is the same. Same here. And we love stories and literature. So I thought, hey, why not? I'm still young enough to give it a go. Anand the worst thing that'll happen is that I learned some valuable lessons. So I appreciate your response here

@Lokigen Use the search bar on both of these: https://reedsy.com, https://youtube.com/@AlyssaMatesic

So that way you could save a lot of time. She has good quality. She's not a toxic creator, in my opinion. So you won't be wasting time. You'll be learning something new from her videos about the publishing world. So, yes, I'll attach both of both of these in the description. Hopefully they help. Best of luck. And I love that you're already working on book two. That is the correct approach to be a writer that people read

You. Wow. Thank you again for coming back with this. I actually just went to the YouTube channel and kind of glanced over Alyssa's stuff. There fantastic stuff, wonderful information. I don't know how I didn't come across it before. Maybe because I'm lazy and I like asking people instead. But I do appreciate it. And reed sea that I'm going to take some time to look at that. It like I said, I am constantly traveling
