What is to be a leader?

article image placeholderUploaded by @LaraBezerra
Leading people is completely different from managing tasks and managing results. Part of the leadership is also managing the results and the tasks, but as just a way to look at it and then recognize and value what people are doing and to have a kind of to measure the temperature of how things are going. But not necessarily when you do not have results or when something is going wrong with your business means that people are doing badly

In my experience, reporting to various leaders for various organizations throughout the United States, I can tell it's palpable. It's something you know that you know that you know. And what I've said is, oh, my goodness, look, here's a person who is not comfortable in their leadership. And because they're not comfortable in their leadership, they don't trust their direct reports

What it takes to make a great leader, a follower's heart, a follower's mindset to know that you are part of a team. There is no I in in team. There's no individual in team. A leader knows each person's strength and weaknesses, knows when to push and when to fall back. We'll get in the trenches with their workers. If there's a project that needs to be done, we're all doing it. We're all in it together

Do you have the ability to create another people thirst and drive? Do you have the ability to sacrifice time, effort, energy in order to succeed? Do you have the energy to carry the load and understand where everybody's experience ends and yours begins in order to get them better than you? True leader is a sensitive, sweet privilege and it's not right. It is a beautiful privilege to lead another human being. An even better privilege

@larabezerra : its a Pandora’s box

And so the next generation of leader are also going to be very different, just like we were different from our leaders, from our seniors. And so there is room and space to develop your own strategy, your own style, your own vocabulary. And sometimes, in the absence of all of this, it's good to follow instead of reinventing the wheel and do what's worked well until it rings a bell for your own direction

You mentioned something that is very interesting, that leadership is something that you can shape, you can create, you can build on. It is like a muscle. All of us have the ability to raise a leader inside us

And I think that I don't know if it was you or Herschel who told about learning leadership. And I learned my leadership not from managing books or Harvard Business. Reviews from my period some years ago, because right now, the Harvard Business Reviews and new business books, they teach you to be a great human being. But in my time, I had to go for ancient books like the tao like Barbada Gita

Hi warped 73. I love your answer, not all your answer but the environment you give the answer. I think that leadership is not only about people, it's about creating an environment where people can feel comfortable to be themselves and you mentioned something so important that leadership is not an honor, it is not a gift you should not take for granted. Leadership is a privilege but I think that even more than this what I tell is that leader is a responsibility

And I think that this is the first thing that I noticed, is that to be a leader is to take the best of each one and make them a leader. So to grow leaders is the first task of a leader. And the second task of a leader is to create an environment where this can be done. As I stepped up in my ladder of leader of positions until I became CEO of companies, I understood that when you are a CEO, you cannot touch the hearts of each one
