#tellSwell | Missing black women do not get media coverage like they’re white counterparts.

article image placeholderUploaded by @LadyFi
It's believed that missing minorities live in impoverished conditions, and crime is a regular part of our lives. And yes, some of us live in really bad neighborhoods, but it doesn't mean we're all bad people. And what bothers me about the fact that women are still missing, we have nearly 100,000 women that were missing in 2020, and they were all women of color. What are we doing here?

I have no idea how to do that, but I can always look it up. I'm here in Chicago, and I'm tired. I really am. I'm tired of us not being defended as people. I'm done asking. I'm telling people at this point because our ancestors asked and begged and pleaded. My mom and my dad, when they marched, they asked my Generation X, we're done. We're not asking anymore

I think there are a lot of other factors at play. But like I said, Carly Russell, she destroyed that myth. She really did, because she got a lot of coverage. In fact, all the people first responders, detectives, police, community people, people in the community that were just looking for her, people that lived there in the area and that was keeping a lookout for her, most of them were white people that were looking for

Like, oh, my God, they've been missing in so many years. Them passed I'm this age and now I'm like, wow. And they probably still ain't found them, you know what I mean? So you are telling the truth. I follow you all day, every day. I hope and pray to hear from you soon

You're going to assume it's a farce because she did a farce. Come on, now. I don't know. I guess it depends on the intelligence of the individual that's watching the TV or seeing the report or the compassion that they have for others. But I understand what you're saying, that she kind of spoiled it for everyone, but how could she spoil something that never was?

Part 1

It was a very scary period of time, and even though it was less than 24 hours, it was really scary. But even more scary that there was no one in terms of authorities that were willing to help us. And that was my first glimpse that women with black and brown skin that are missing the level of attention is different in comparison to others. But I still wanted to hold on to the hope that

And it is for this reason and this reason alone, because if something happens, my family will get very little resources and attention towards what happened in terms of search crews blasting out the information, putting out any type of alert on any national broadcasting alert system. They would not be afforded that, likely not afforded that unless they happen to know someone in a lofty position that says, hey, I am going to make sure there is attention and light shed on this matter, on this person that is missing

And I'm really sorry about your sister, but I'm really glad that she was able to be found. And it's so sad that her uncle or a family member had to do all that research in order to find her and the police would do nothing. This is a child and they want to wait 48 hours because they think she ran away. And that was one of my points earlier

Because if a person goes missing, if we don't know that they were kidnapped and taken across state lines and stuff, then I don't know why we get national coverage. I could understand why we get local and regional coverage because people in the immediate area need to look for them

You have newswise, criminology and criminaljusticelaw scholastics.com. There are several things. NBC News, the Grio, CNN Minnesota Department of Public Safety government gov. Info gov has stuff. I mean it can go on and on and on and on and on and I have several things about women, black women in America that go missing. USA News and World Report. It's all over. And I think that people need to start taking it more seriously just because other people don't live in a big town

If it's a systemic problem, I definitely want to see some numbers, some hard data to support it, because I know sometimes we can get emotional about things like this. And I like to see numbers. I like to see it in black and white. So thank you so much. I appreciate

Matter of fact, to add to this, the disgust of it all, I want to say I heard it just a few days ago on the Candace Owens podcast on YouTube, where California had approved a separate alert system, a separate Amber Alert system for children of black and brown. Again, and I forget the name that they ended up coming up with. And people were commenting saying that there is no need for a separate Amber Alert system for people with black and brown skin

Another story I have of someone missing is so, again, I worked in education. There were two daughters. They were twins, and they pretty much lived with their father, and I think they were with their mom on the weekend due to her work schedule. Well, long story short, the mom was walking into Walgreens and passed out. Hit her head, passed out. She was brought to the hospital. She stayed at the hospital for a week

It's. Forgive me, I'm in the airport. But I totally agree. I mean, I am alert for black and brown skin. I mean, we would pay attention, right? But I think the greater part of the world would just ignore it because they'd be like, oh, it's just somebody else of black and brown, and they don't really care. But I'm not going to stay on here because I'm in that report

@DearAuntyAng

Hello. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I really felt some kind of way regardless to that story. But I'm glad that you shared it with us. Please excuse the fan in the background. Thank you so much for always being present for our conversations. And my first husband was addicted to crack cocaine as well, so I get it. Not ashamed to say it, so anyway, thank you
