And it's entitled Alone atop of the Hill, the autobiography of Alice Dungan, pioneer of the National Black press. During her retirement, she also wrote another book, the Fascinating Story of Black Kentuckyans, in 1982. Now, despite her extensive work in government and politics, she was most proud of her work in journalism, and she received more than 50 journalism awards. She unfortunately died of ischemic bowel disease on May 6, 1983, in Washington, DC
