Social Media Executives testified before Senate Judiciary Committee , on the Hot Seat for deaths or Sexual Exploitation of Children

If they want to sue me based on the fact that my company has done something wrong, then they can sue me. A lot of these parents have lost their children, and they have no legal recourse because there are no laws. There are no laws with social media. And in that, we have a problem. We do need to establish that we are in a cyber world. We are in an online facilities world. We get online every day

If you want to make an omelette, you gotta break some eggs @LadyFi

They knew that that was happening for well over the last 15 years. So it was that reaffirming. When you make a decision, if you want to make an omelet, you got to break some eggs. Now they're testifying to Congress, and they're finding out that the eggs they broke were children's lives. Children took their lives. Families were destroyed. People were destroyed. Misinformation was spread. And, yeah, to say, oh, it's not our problem

And this is a world that moves way faster than legislators can move. But there is a contingent of legislators that also favor a limited role of government and business. And if you follow the courts of the appellate level, corporations are fighting to have any oversight at all. They want to be free to conduct their business. Now, in theory, they say that a free market, a market will correct the evildoers as people will cease to do business with them

Hey Phil, thanks so much for commenting on wanting. I almost tagged you in it. I think I invited you to it, but I wanted your commentary about it because I knew you were probably watching and I knew you had something great to say. And you are absolutely right. These legislators have created this monster, and now they want to get up there and grandstand and oh, listen to me have their sound bite

And because there are no laws in place for us to properly prosecute in regards to the laws that are broken, that's what society needs. We're going to an AI universe. We're already in cyber territory, and now we need to establish laws. This is a new game for us, and it shouldn't be a game, but I'm just saying this is new territory. We've never encountered this before

And the irony here is just way too thick for me. But on the other hand, I do want to make this point that I am glad that this is happening. This is something that these firms need to be held accountable to. And it really shows me just yet again that self regulation does not work. I have seen way too many examples, and I will admit, when I was younger, I thought, know, a free market, meaning self regulation would work

It's interesting that you bring up the fact that we live in an AI society, in a cyber world, and we're pretty much already plugged in, whether we like it or not. But there's different steps that are coming in the process, I think we can all see coming down the line. It's essentially a ready player

We live, Phil. We live in a world where celebrity is now really the only commodity left for the average human being. Take a look at how many people right now, currently, right now, currently are starting YouTube channels are starting to become what? Identify as content creators or influencers. That's the common folk. And then you realize that the people in Congress have been that the entire time. They recognized it early on, and they seized the opportunity and they let everything run wild
