He was an african american inventor from Providence, Rhode island. He's best known for his two most significant inventions, the street letter box. Though not the first street letter box patent and operating street railway switches. Mr. Philip, or Mr. Downing, had a long career in Boston, Massachusetts, as a postal clerk. And shortly after 1880, when Mr. Philip met and married Evangeline Howard. Excuse me, my voice. He had two children. He retired in 1927 after working more than 30 years

And it's funny because now I'm in a small town and there are boxes, like, throughout the town, and I'm, like, in the city, you only get like one or two every somewhere when they used to be almost on every corner. So it's very interesting the things that we take for granted. And I appreciate the history on this one. Thanks

Thank you so much for listening. Thank you so much. You know what? I didn't even think about it until I was trying to think about things to research about black people. And then I saw something that popped up, and I was like, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Did he invent this? Did he get the pattern for this, or did he get the pattern for improving on it? So, yeah. Thank you so much. I appreciate you always listening
