Raymond Weeks, who was a World War II veteran, organized National Veterans Day, which did include a parade and some other festivities to honor all veterans, and the event was held on November 11, then designated Armatist Day. But later, US Representative Edward Reese of Kansas proposed a bill that would change Armitage Day to Veterans Day. In 1954, Congress passed the bill that President Eisenhower signed proclaiming November 11 as Veterans Day. And Raymond Weeks received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Reagan in November of 1982

All kinds of stuff, just free stuff. And so he's going to collect all his free stuff this weekend. He's just going to have himself a ball. But I also wish every veteran, whether you are currently serving or have served in the past, definitely wishing you a happy Veterans Day. There are just not enough words that could express our gratitude as a nation for your selfless service, putting your life on the line to protect the rights and the freedoms that we so often take for granted
