How Often Do You Get Take Out?

article image placeholderUploaded by @kylecrossman
Hey, y'all. I'm a pretty big foodie, and cooking is something I love to do, especially during the school year when I'm really, really busy and I have a lot on my plate, just, like, being able to sit down, cook my meal, spend some time, am solely focusing on that is something really therapeutic to me. And it's just where it's like, a nice, big space for me

How often do you eat out, what cuisine do you enjoy, or do you like cooking instead? #food #cooking

So I play Ultimate Frisbee at school and that's a three hour practice every weekday basically, and then tournaments on the weekend. So I'd say during the school year I'm probably getting take out like five nights a week. Cooking more in college is definitely something I want to learn how to do or I guess more later on in life. But right now it's just hard to find the time as a college student to want to cook

Hey, Rachel, thanks for your reply. I definitely am also right there with you and just buying groceries rather than kind of ordering to take out. I feel like we're in the same boat there just because it's easier and a bit cheaper, and I yeah, I'm just, like, financially conscious just because I'm going to school and all of that

That's such a crazy long practice. 3 hours every day. That's insane, dude. I could not do that. But I I totally understand how, like, you just don't have time for it like that's. Like what I run into like, an issue I have during the school year when things pick up. Like this last year during fall and spring, I was super busy with schoolwork. I wasn't even doing that much outside of that because I was so focused on that

One thing I've kind of found and this, I feel like it's good for you. It's good for the community. It's good for your wallet. I like to focus on trying to find places that are really local or owned by local people and that have been around for a while. When I'm eating out, beyond just getting some really good food, I feel like I'm also really interested in trying to avoid contributing to gentrification of the area that I go to college in

So I don't really want to drive like 20 minutes just to get faster, if you like, and then eating out, like picking up something quicker or something like simpler. I would say also six times a month. I used to eat in last year eat out like three or pouri times a week. I guess I kind of know now it's more like twice a week. Honestly, it's like once, twice a week now. But most of it is like, fancier places

Hey, this is such a great point that you bring up because one of my favorite restaurants, Raku Ramen, which is like just down the street from me, just went out of business a while ago during COVID. And it's like partly because of the pandemic, like, because they had to close, but also partly because people are just going out and eating at different places and they're not eating at local places

And I feel that whenever I go out to nicer restaurants, like with friends or whatever, we have a lot more mature conversations, like we're talking about our futures and our friends and how all that's going versus if I end up at Taco Bell or something like that. So I also love just, like, the nice upscale vibe and going going out to, like, a, quote, cancer restaurant, as you mentioned

And normally I try to find recipes that are really fast, very simple, and require minimal ingredients so I'm not constantly running back and forth from the grocery store. It's really great if there are recipes that you already have on ingredients in your cabinet or they're really basic ingredients so you can stock up on them and have to worry about stuff going bad, like canned stuff

Being in college makes a lot of sense because living in dorms when you're a crossman or for any other reason, that was why I could eat out. But now that I live in an apartment, I have everything I need to cook. So I still eat out here and there, but not as much as I used to. But I would recommend everyone to just try because a little bit if you can, because I personally think it can be pretty therapeutic

As another, like, big foodie. I just love to try different foods and just like, eat with other people because it's just, in my opinion, just so fun and it's like really refreshing and great. But again, it adds up over time and it adds up like a lot over time. It's just really okay. Surprisingly how much a certain meal just adds up

Hey, Regan, thanks for your response. Sorry I'm replying so late. I've been a little busy, and I've been away from swell. But, yes, making food with friends is so much easier, especially when you just have half of the ingredients. They have half of the ingredients

@tremaine

Hey, Tremaine. I'm so, so happy to hear that you started cooking, and it's going really swell for you so far, that you're enjoying it. I also sort of had to just teach myself and get into it when I left for college because there was no nothing to eat, and I was like, all right, I got to make some stuff happen in the kitchen. And it was a learning curve for me, for sure

And DoorDash is so expensive because they add all of the other fees and whatnot on top of that. So I refuse to use DoorDash unless my friend has a DoorDash pass and I'm super hungry and it's 03:00 a.m. I'm exhausted and I'm really intoxicated but that's the only time I do it and even then, maybe it's like once every three months. But yeah, I just love trying new foods, trying a bunch of different foods. It gets expensive though
