Teacher Journal 9.19.23: Math in Parts

I don't really have anything planned for, but I don't think my class has deserves an intervention reward. So we'll probably do some kind of work. I mean, I've told them this, but I think I'm going to discuss just what I've seen in the math and how I'm going to address that going forward. Because we had a meeting where we reviewed our practice tests that sort of prep us for meeting state exams

Differentiating Intervention

Um, first off, we have these intervention periods where we essentially they're going over fundamental skills for the students. And I, you know, at first what I was doing is everybody worked on the same packets and I'm keeping records of the results. I kind of teach them certain skills and the packets tell me where they're at and and it's mostly computation, like straight up calculation, because you need those skills first before you kind of do the problem solving stuff

Practice Standardized Tests: Word Problems and Turning Visuals and Stories into Math

Hello. Okay, so we have a standardized test at the end of the year. They have to take, or sometime during the year called the SBAC. I think they actually take it twice. Once, and then they compare their results and how they've grown from one to the other. We went over yesterday as an 8th grade team. The practice test for these standardized tests we have in digital form. And the actual test is digital too

Tracked Learning

And so some of these kids, I had to pull one student out because he can be kind of a class clown, but part of it is his effort is he won't show it, but he gets frustrated because he can't get the stuff. And sitting with him, I have to take too much time away from other students and managing the classroom when I try to sit with them
