How can a poem start there and end here?

And I wanted to say quickly about this something I say in the other post as well, which is that for a long time I had for myself the story about this poem, that it came out exactly the way it ended. And then I came across a first draft of this poem quite a bit later and realized how many mistakes I made

@katharine.coles - Lucky to to be able to hear you read your own poem. #AskSwell #poems

It shifted my perspective listening to it, and I thought that it was an amazing edit. How you came about it, I don't know. But thank you so much for sharing both versions. And it's really a gift to be able to hear you read it

@silentbowler

Now, having done it so long, so much of what I do is instinctive. And I'm just listening and listening. And very often when the musicality of the poem is finished, then that's when I'm willing to walk away
