Welcome to Where the Light Gets In

article image placeholderUploaded by @hope
You. Here's a thought about life. It is unbearably precious and beautiful, and sandwiched in between all that is the horrible, heavy stuff that makes our knees buckle and our tears fall. And when I hear you speak about your life, it only further clarifies this for me. When we are in a constant juggle with light and dark, it is incredible to listen to that in someone's voice. But it's our capacity as humans to tell stories. That always gives me hope

It's probably going to get worse before it gets better. But the thing is, you have apps like this. You have swellcast. You have new opportunities to build communities. You have new opportunities to reach out to people. Like I'm talking to people on here. They just post things. They post their sadness, their suffering, their hearts, everything feeling and beyond

So I went from the singing, dancing, always asking questions, wanting to be a different profession everyday kid to the quiet, observant kid, then went from the quiet, observant kid to the quiet, observant girl and teenager. My dad was very. He was going through his own stuff and I could feel it. I could feel it. I knew when he was going to go for weeks and not talk to us. I knew when he was going to have an attitude

But you really are a light just by being in your voice and in your truth about what you've been figuring out so far in this journey. So I want to thank you for sharing this and for being such a beautiful force in this some cosmos we are in right now. Thanks so much. Bye

It. Wow. What an amazing testimony. And I just really appreciate you sharing your story of going through growing and having an illness that you're constantly trying to fight through. And I just want to tell you that your story was touching, very easy, and it encouraged me and it granted me a sense of hope that even in my own personal struggles, that there's positive energy that can change things in your life. And I think that your struggle has brought out your purpose

Painful memories

And I remember freaking out as a child because my mom was swerving a bit. And I jumped out of my safety belt and started screaming because I wanted to distract my mom from driving. And I remember my mom stopping the car and asking me to get out of the car. And she asked my sister Jackie to open the door, and she cried and said, no, mommy, no. I don't want Dodo to go out there

You. I'm so sorry that that memory haunts you. I can certainly see how that could affect you. And, you know, and really reflecting back and seeing that you went through something so horrible, yet you're here today and you survived by the grace of God

You. Here's something I've thought a lot about pertaining to light and dark. As a photographer, I've been taking pictures since I was a kid, but I started taking them professionally around 85. And the more professional you get and the more into it you get, the more you require extra gear. And back in the film days, we, of course, developed picture in what's called the dark room

Lighting my Loss #tellyourstory @hope

And the result? My challenging experiences, circumstances. Something miraculously happened. I had discovered what was lost myself. One evening when I was feeling low, a light entered my life. An amazing man. A new, fresh human being with new ideas, compassion and empathy. I was going through a difficult time period. At that time, and particularly during the pandemic, I was feeling extremely low, aimlessly scrolling through twitter. It was then that a familiar and kind message appeared on my screen

Healing in nature ♥️

And there's a whole pile of fish like right in front of her, like 20 or 30 of them that would suddenly just jumped out of the water. And I'm like so close, but no cigar there, baby. So that's a couple of our memories that I have from there. And we actually came up with a book just by sitting there, a children's book that we want to write as well, and maybe go down and take some photos

That's a tough balance as a parent. You said you're a parent too, and I'm struggling with how do I do that. So I just want to thank you for sharing that as just a reminder to me to do better, to be better. Don't steal their light

Hey, Brandon, I also just wanted to acknowledge your connection to the story and just say that the fact that you are so conscious and reflective is in itself such an important grounding truth about how you parent. There's no manual, there's no perfect way, and some people never even to reflect. And the fact that you're thinking about that is so extraordinary. So just wanted to reflect that back to
