FUTURE TRIPPING | Introduction and Quote

article image placeholderUploaded by @hope
Welcome to where the light gets in. Each week we pick a topic and we look at it from different perspectives. And this week I wanted to talk about future tripping. The idea of thinking about the future and it's causing you anxiety and it's distracting you. We're going to get into it. Let me give you a quote that's provocative and maybe we'll kick this off well by Paolo Coela. The secret is here in the present

It. I really, really need to hear this. Like, I was actually just talking about all the anxiety I have about the future, about career stuff, about just a lot of things. And yeah, it's very good to hear that we should be in the present. It's just so hard because you want to know that you're going to be okay, that your family is going to be okay, and how do you make that happen? Right?

I can't control what politicians might think or say, but I can control what I think and what I say. That's what I try to lean into to give me some support and some ability in the middle of all the anxiety that I feel. So thanks and looking forward to hearing from everyone else

Hey, Rich, thanks for that reinforcement about what we can and cannot control and the focus on the positive. And Michael, I want to just reflect back to what you said around what we need profoundly sometimes, which is a reminder. It's just a reminder

I'm more of a futurist and a present individual, I guess you could say, unfortunately. And I even think about the future as far as politics and government is concerned. For instance, what gets me going as far as talk about anxiety is this year's election, the 2024 election. I mean, I scares the living daylights out of me. So anyway, that's a whole other topic, I guess, for discussion. But everything you said is actually right on the money

Bruno. I enjoyed your response, but something, you know, sparked my curiosity. Like what about this particular election cycle has you worried? I'm just curious

But when you're actually dealing with anxiety, it's really hard to go back to that and implement the tasks that maybe you did learn, which is very difficult too do, because you usually have to seek out that education yourself or you've received that education because you've struggled so much. So I think that's my thoughts for the day

That's just my opinion, and I'll just leave it at that because I really don't want to take away from anyone's swell that has nothing to do with the topic of what they've created. But I wanted to be respectful and touch back with you, so hopefully we can have a further discussion about that in the future. Okay, it thank you

And, yes, it can even be scary not knowing where to go or where our next form of income is going to come from. But just two years ago, I almost lost my husband of 18 years to acute respiratory failure. And so he's alive. And I'm so, so grateful for that. So that is what also helps me enjoy the present, because I get to do these crazy adventures with him

Or at the very least, it may bring some comfort in knowing that our subconscious is still hard at work, keeping us safe. And this may be how we can empower the present, because then we can afford ourselves the space to decide if the worry or anxiety is legitimate. Or are we just boxing with our own shadow, so to speak? Of course, I understand that all of this may be oversimplifying it majorly, especially after hearing so many other thought provoking replies

There is nothing about thinking what's going to happen next. Just love yourself, just be happy, and just go around spreading happiness with that beautiful smile of yours

Hi, this is India. I want to speak on the future tripping. For me. Most of my life, I've always been the type of person to stay so focused on the future that I would tend to forget to live in the present moment because I was constantly thinking about, like, what's happening next, what's coming next. Trying to be ahead of everything without realizing that just causes anxiety. Then it's like, okay, let's break it down

Because they're just fine and we're going to be just fine, too. And everything is not all the things that keep us comfortable. I mean, nature is homeless and it does great. And like someone said, our fear of death is something that keeps us in fear, I guess, but it's nothing to fear as well. I mean, nature doesn't fear it, but yeah, very fascinating. And I really love listening to everybody. This is a great thing to find

You. Hey, everyone. You know, it's both heartbreaking and amazing to see all of us opening about our struggles with anxiety and myself, I was there feeling overwhelmed by it all. But I wanted to share something that helped me out today. And yeah, yeah, I once heard this guy talk about how our thoughts can shape our reality and present. That's a gift, man. And it hit me hard

I believe our future trip a lot. I've never heard of that phrase before, especially when you job hunt and you want to secure a job and make sure you have money for whatever you need, finances or getting a house or apartment or whatever. But I'm always worried about if I don't get something in a certain amount of time. I feel like I'm stuck. And it's a little depressing too. So just try your best. I feel like I just keep trying my best

I think I can relate to future tripping, because as I age, I start to worry about what life will be like for me in 510 20 plus years and me feeling like I'm not getting ahead in life or I feel like I move slower than everybody else. I feel like I see my peers growing up, getting married, having kids, getting their perfect career that they wanted, and I feel like I'm just gliding along. And I worry about that a lot

🙏

I just want to thank everybody for contributing to this week of future tripping. It was really exceptional to hear different responses that kind of light up how this lives in our lives, and it does show up as anxiety
