RESILIENCE | Introduction and Quote

article image placeholderUploaded by @hope
Staying connected, giving meaning to your days, learning from your past, staying hopeful, which is another conversation we could have about what that word means. And taking care of your physical body is very important. But feeling like you have an action plan. I want this week to be about conversations where we can look at the vulnerability of this issue, where we can look at times when we wanted to be resilient but we weren't, and we could share times when our resilience saved our lives

And thinking back over my life the past couple of months where I've had to be resilient due to losses, professional losses, personal losses, and it's very easy to just stay in bed all day and not do anything. But I can't do that. I'm just not constitutionally made up to just do that. I have to do something. And I think the doing of something helps in my resilience

I think everybody's capable of being resilient, right? Different things break us down at different points for different reasons, of course. But every. Every time that you get to choose to be resilient, to keep going, and you do, for whatever reason, I hope, you know, you won. Like you really won, because everybody did not choose to keep going like you did. So thank you again for sharing this topic. That felt really good to even just say that out loud

But then to hear them be sort of marinated or process through someone else's mind, it's. It's always so enlightening to me. So thank you both for kicking this off

And he proceeded to tell me, because n people can't play the piano or can't make music, which is deeply wrong and false. But what was most traumatic? I mean, there's a whole bunch of layers of trauma there. But one of the most challenging parts of that thing, that incident that happened in my life, is that, to be honest, I don't think I really even understood that I was like a black girl because I was six

Hello. Thank you so much for, you know, putting this out there, you know, resilience. I think that a lot of people really could relate to this. I mean, my life, I've been resilient my entire life because I feel like if I don't, then really I'm just kind of, like, given up. And I don't give up. I have to face those fears. I have to face the unknown

Hey, Ken, I really appreciate you going back to that memory. And I just had this image of you walking away from that window, like as a metaphor that you're not going to press yourself against a window and look towards something that's not in your control, and not waiting and knowing that you can turn that sort resolution into sort of a life's goal, to never make anybody else look out the window for you

I'm super excited. It's all about how my daughter and I survived Hurricane Ian and how we've bounced back. But resilience is a powerful, amazing, natural tool that we all have, and it just excites me to no end. I could talk about it for days

So thank you for adding your perspective and your good intention to get us all in the same sort of resilient space, if you will. It's really great to hear that you have such faith in it as a force and
