Is Someone ELSE’s Success Bothering You? Here’s Why and You Can Change That♥️
But I have experienced jealousies before in envy. I don't care about the people that are getting brand new homes on social media. I never cared about that. I don't care if my family members are traveling around the world. That's not desirable to me. So I don't look at that and count it as a loss. I count it as a win, that I am being everything that my creator made me to be

I'm devastated, I'm broken, I'm beaten down. But then when you share your heart and you're open even about some of the dark places and spaces, and it doesn't have to be everything, it can just allude to certain things. It doesn't have to be descriptive or traumatic, but just ways to get things across and bond with each other

And I know it's not easy because if everyone is seemingly moving forward, it begins to make you feel like something is fighting against you, and so you feel like that you're not a success. And so we have to remember that true success is definitely how we define it, and it's about the bond that we share and make with others. So I do thank you for pointing that out, and I appreciate you listening to my swell

And if anything, it just made me feel like I had somehow failed my parents or something, because they don't get excited when I accomplish certain things, and I'm like, okay, well, maybe the stuff that I'm doing is just stuff that doesn't really interest them. So I noticed that I work as a court appointed advocate for children in foster care. I think that that's wonderful. I love children

And you brought up an interesting point, that it is relative. You mentioned that perhaps your parents view interior decorating and designing and baking those type of ventures. Maybe they view that a little bit higher in their minds or what they consider as success, whereas community work, or for example, even writing is not viewed as success. I know the author of Children of Blood and Bone, Toya Adeyemi, I think her name is. She said her parents wanted her to be a doctor

And me over here in my corner, being happy about something has zero to do with you doing over there. And I've seen it. And then because I kept seeing it on social media, and I was like, what is this theme that I'm noticing about folks getting mad at someone else being happy? How is that bothering you? And so, yeah, you see me getting a little bit passionate there. I was like that in the swell

Because even though I write articles about embracing our natural hair, I understand that many times it's hard because we're trying to get our hair to become beautiful, manageable. Our hair is already beautiful, but we try to get it to manageable, and sometimes without meaning to, we're trying to get our hair to be acceptable, which is a whole other can of worms to deal with. Yeah, but when people see your hair now, they don't know what your journey was like
But I was playing catch up, and I was always paranoid, thinking to myself, I got to be up to speed with all my friends and my girlfriend, right, who is now my wife. And it was almost kind of embarrassing not to be at the same pace as they were. But in retrospect now, looking back at all that, it was really just silliness because we all have our time in life, or times, I should say, where we bloom and rebloom. And rebloom

She told me, erica, I didn't know that you didn't even have a bachelor's or master's degree because your articles are so well researched and it's so articulate. And she said, I wouldn't have known if you didn't tell me. And that's how I knew right then that we have to carve out our own successes. So I hope this encourages anyone who listens to this swell, because I've always loved to read and to write
Anyway, I do have also a free report that I'd be more than happy to email to you if you're interested. A free report on finding free money for college, not only through scholarships and grants, but other means, some of which you may not be familiar with. So if you're interested, just send me shoot over an email to me at info@motivatemeuniversity.org that's info@motivatemeuniversity.org and if you're interested about that book, have actually a swellcast that discusses it

So I like that there's a balance because as I've mentioned several times before as well, there are members of my family who are excellent examples of people who found great careers after college. So I do have that example. And then, of course, I have other successful family members who did not touch a college and they're very successful. So yeah, I think it's very important to share these balanced stories

And I used to say, if everybody gets to bed at night and they're still alive, they haven't killed each other, they haven't killed themselves, and I haven't killed them, then I am a successful parent

You're doing good. I don't care what no one says. The fact that they are here, well fed, healthy, doing well, that's a win because their father has passed away in 2012. Car accident, very bad car accident. So she's doing this on her own with some input from my mom. But everyone's doing good and that's a success. And that's what we have to do is redefine it
