If you don't press charges, this man has every right to come back into this home because you guys are legally married. And I was like, no, I don't want to. He's a black man. I don't want. There's enough going on with police and black men. I don't want to press charges. I was so scared and so frightened. Nonetheless, that was the last time that my abuser resided at that home

To trying to help him through that. That they know how to, quote unquote, handle him when he's like that, which means they've seen it before, and more than likely, they'll see it again. And that's unfortunate. I don't know how old these young men are now, but I hope and pray that seeing their father like that makes them want to be good men and not want to be like that ever

However, it all worked out for my good. It all worked out for my good so that I could have that period of being alone. And I mean really being alone. To do the actual work, not talk about the work, because talking about it sounds good. But to actually do the work, girl, the tears I had to cry and the peeling back the layers is really looking at myself in the mirror to be the woman that I am today. I am really proud of me
