Amplifying Teen Voices: Nurturing Screen-Smart Kids through Parental Engagement in the Digital Era

article image placeholderUploaded by @HeatherB
They can explore their interests and talents and find support when they can't find support in the real world. There's a lot of support online. So we do, as adults in their lives, need to be aware of the positive aspects as well and then act as guides in helping them utilize technology in a balanced and mindful manner. That's really what my whole platform is about

So these tweens and teens are asking questions about, I want to connect with people online, but I also want to disconnect. There's things I really care about and I'm passionate about online, but I know that things I post can stay there forever. And I might say the wrong thing, but I don't want to be silent as well. So how do I put my voice out there in a positive way?

When the group of kids is actually using location services to know where they are at night and making sure everyone's safe in their group. We really need to look at this mentoring rather than just limiting tech access or permissions. Unlimited access isn't really helping them. Younger adolescents obviously need more direct oversight. You can still support their personal agency, use a gradual release model. We do it in schools as teachers. You're gradually releasing them to work independently and on their own

It's an important time in their life. They want trust from the adults in their lives. They want access to this online world because they know it's out there. They know they're growing up with it, and they know they're going to use it whether or not they're with you later in life. To be honest, every student that I've had in every one of my clubs or courses that has been a part of this conversation, they've appreciated it
