The Digital Wellness Dilemma: Decoding Threads by Meta

article image placeholderUploaded by @HeatherB
So there's a lot of parents out there already that don't like Instagram. They don't feel it's safe enough. There's still ways for things to happen on Instagram. So while Threads is trying to ensure a safer online experience for our younger users, it is the same as Instagram. They provide a sense of security. It functions the same as other social media platforms

Right now so that I can kind of tell people what the premise is, what are some pitfalls of it and just remind you that attention economy is serious and that's what amplifies our overwhelm in a digital world. So I hope you got a few nuggets from this and just stay mindful and stay connected with me and take care. I'll see you next time

I'd really like to see a future where these online communities are owned by internet users themselves and not companies trying to get your data for ad money or to train large language models. I'm also afraid after a while Instagram and Threads will actually merge and everyone will get an account automatically. I really hope that won't happen. I have no interest in seeing text posts in between my picture posts. So for now I'll stay away from threats anyway

So that's why I think I'm just so proactive in trying to get the messages out there to parents to really talk to their tweens and teens and whether they're handing over devices just free for all because they don't know what to do or whether they think they're doing everything, but really they just don't know. I think it's an important conversation to keep going
