Hey. Hello, book lovers. I'm zidi your very own book cobbler. And welcome to today's session. Emotional wellbeing is imperative for our overall growth. Today we have with us author, psychologist, Pragati Surika, who will talk to us about her book emotional Ability, Resources and Emotional Wellbeing. Congratulations, ma'am, on the release of this book. Let's begin with understanding emotional wellness. This isn't a term that's spoken of in India. So what does one deduce from emotional wellness?

Ah. That was so very well explained, ma'am. And my second question is sort of in continuation with my first one, which is, what are the basic factors that we need to keep in mind to keep ourselves emotionally healthy, to keep our emotional wellness in check for us as well as those around us?

You. There are some basic factors which one needs to keep in mind if one wants to enjoy emotional wellness, like for health. We've often heard that saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away. While not many subscribe to it, the simple reason for it used to be so that people remember to get their basic dose of essential vitamins fiber and have something nutritious to ensure that certain vital nutrients come to the body

This comes from experience because every time I utter certain emotions, I'm told to shut my track happy because I'm not supposed to show my vulnerability. But this also cancels out that we're not supposed to have a dialogue which will in the long run help for overall growth

Now, when we talk about mental health and the moment people talk about emotions, why in India specifically we are told to shut our trap is because emotions is a word which is only used for dysregulation. It's not emotional. Meaning what? People think that emotional hoga yo means somebody is weak, somebody is going to keep crying, somebody is going to yell, somebody is going to personalize an issue which will again make things awkward for everyone around them

You. Some of the tools that I have spoken about in the book are actually like taking daily meds. The first one is daily meditation. What's really important is that you take out five minutes to meditate and give yourself Affirmations. Now, affirmations are statement that convince us of what is good inside us. Most of us have heard so much criticism that we turn to internalize that criticism. And before we know it, the voice in our head is always critical. Oh, you are so fat

Hello. I so agree with you. These tools work wonders, be it affirmations, journaling. I personally have two, three different journals to journal my thoughts, to journal my affirmation, to journal what I've been reading so that I keep a track of everything, I categorize everything. And I have seen that these tools boost your confidence ins and they actually bring about a glow up inside out

So today when we have to string words together instantly, the response comes because there has been ten to 15 years of practice minimum by the time we apply it as adults, right? So if we want our mental health to be good and we want emotional wellness to be a part of our life, we need to give vent to what is really brewing inside. Sometimes that means doing the exercises which have been there. Now disgust, shame, fear, we've never released them from our system

Skill based approach is quite a new term for me. And I'm sure this is going to bring about a humongous change in our lives if we implement it. My last question to you, ma'am, is how does one take care of the emotional wellness of kids? How to imbibe the techniques for emotional well being from an early age?

@Book_gobbler

You can ask a child, the child may say mama, I got very scared when you yelled at me. Mama, I was very fearful. Dad, I was very ashamed. I thought I had let you down. So, you know, when we start conversing about what were the feelings behind an emotion, children learn about emotional well being from a very young age. My earlier book Hope talks about this concept of stories and how to have conversations about healthy minds with children

And if one gets to know that, okay, these are the symptoms, and my family member might be suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, ma'am, what are the steps? How one should proceed further? One should first seek a counselor or maybe give time that he says yes, that yes, I am feeling unwell and I need help. So how one should proceed, ma'am, that's my question to you. Best wishes to you, ma'am. Lots of success to
