Rap Happy

And then as we got a little bit deeper into the 90s, rap music started to change a little bit, and rap music became more important. You had groups like NWA. You had groups like Public Enemy. Now, rap had a message. It had a point to it. And they were singing about social injustices. They were singing about police brutality. Rap became important, and it became sort of the voice of the voiceless, at least in this country

Hat. I enjoyed the start of that so much. I just had to hit play on it again. And it still made me laugh. I really appreciated it. Thank you. And, you know, I don't know that I've actually paid attention to the nuances and shifting of rap music, although I do listen to it. But you're right. I mean, at least some of that I can recognize is that there were those changes

What's funny now is my son went to go see them with his girlfriend just recently. I love Billy Joel, Elton John and all of Billy Joel's music. I've seen him three or four times in concert. I would love to go see him again because he puts on a good show too. But as far as heavy metal, what have I seen? Kiss striper Van Halen journey. I don't think that's really heavy metal though

I think the reason for it turning into that type of bragging was because people started making more money, but also more comfortability lied in being braggadocious, more comfortability lied in being wealthy. And we had saw this before as well. That was mainly what Ella Cool J's entire shtick was. And he's one of the first rappers he was the first rapper ever signed to Def Jam before anybody else. And all he was, was a braggadocious woman's man, ladies man, and that was it

It's just me being a d***. I think you're onto something, though, with people who feel like rap has changed. Kind of kind of chasing that nostalgia feeling. I think you're right about that. Except for in my case, I honestly, I think I've heard I've listened to four rap songs in my entire life. I'm I'm not a fan of rap. That was just humor as a humor joke

I guess we were supposed to be so hardcore, you know what I mean, that we didn't even like Will Smith. He was like the corniest of the corny, you know what I mean? And after that is when rap became the voice of the community. And the rappers was using a genre of music to tell what was going on in their neighborhood. And yes, Los Angeles was bad. It was very bad

But if you listen to Charlie Daniels and listen to The Devil Went Down to Georgia, it's a rap song. It's as simple as that. I'm claiming everybody else can claim to and then dealing with scratching records to 808 beat machines and synthesizers, you know what I mean? It's come up like a crazy long way. And to see what these guys have done with it
