Being Cool, Modern, Progressive

article image placeholderUploaded by @Gamechanger
You are cool when you can be proud of your heritage. You are cool when you can flaunt your traditional dress in style. You're cool when you can talk about your culture and traditions with pride. You're cool and modern when you don't feel inferior to anyone, when you don't allow negative feelings to cloud your judgments or decisions. That is being cool. You're modern and progressive when you respect your elders and take care of yourself

I'm an atheist. I don't believe in any religion. I don't come from any religion without even understanding what is the religion. I mean, I'm not against the people who are saying this. Of course everyone has the right to put their own opinions, but calling themselves atheists just because you don't understand it was something I would find very uncool

You. Thank you so much for responding, and I'm so glad that you agree with me. And yeah, I also don't like it when people think that if they are working round the clock, they are doing something very cool. It is not at all cool because it's almost like you're being a slave to your work. And I mean, I don't like that kind of work ethic myself

Because oftentimes, I can express the pain in my own language and may not be able to really translate it into even the language that I speak very, very fluently. So I feel that having to speak English just so you can look cool, I find it very uncool, and I'm saying it because I have done it myself. I would find speaking English very, very cool. So even with people who couldn't speak English, I would be like, no, I know English

We were taught how to trust your gut, how to take decisions, how to basically follow your intuition and everything was there in our curriculum. But now when the Britishers came they eradicated everything so that more and more labels could actually come from India like the engineers, the doctors and everything. So yeah I think very very important point that you highlighted and thank you so much. You too have a lovely, lovely weekend

You are too sweet. Yes, I think birkul tikara merabi egg aj jama bhatkariti. Meh bhatkariti muje. So I think Mazadar to Saini Amari language. But hambalance karak. I think ginzin hindi. Gaman karaka was in Hindi. The day we want to switch to English, we can do English. But on the days we want to speak both, we can speak both. So maybe let our inner intuition guide us and let's just flow with that. Thank you so much and yes, bye

So, modernization, you very rightly said that it has to be a perfect blend between your progressive approach and your traditional way of thinking. We have to bring it both together, and we don't have to feel ashamed of our traditions. Thank you so, my dear, for sharing this wonderful, such a thought provoking topic today. Thank you

So it's very important that they understand the exact terms and exact meaning of what these are and how to take care of these things. So you have rightly come up with various aspects and rightly put them forward. I really loved it. Thank you so much, Ranjana. Have a great day

Hello good morning. I wish I could share this post and make the kids around in my society, you know, walking around in american walking around and speaking in american accents which sound american only to indian ears. I speak in English whereas my mother tongue is Hindi. I have a weird accent myself. I don't say you shouldn't. I love things from west, but at the same time I love things from my own tradition also

@Payal_Shandil

Thank you Payal. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your views. You're absolutely right. We are cool because we have still not given up on our roots. We're trying to cling on to them because I think in the past we may have had this dilemma which way to lean, but somehow we have understood that roots are important. And I just wish the coming generations understand that. Because yes, you can copy from others, but copy only the good

Being cool means acknowledging not only other people's emotions and feelings, but accepting and acknowledging your feelings too. Expressing yourself, crying, laughing, smiling, expressing your feelings in a right well channelized manner means being cool means being modern and progressive. Standing for your values and your beliefs. Saying no when you feel that it is going to affect your mental well being. All of these are concepts that we can associate with being cool, modern and progressive

@VidisshaSheth

Thank you so much, Vidissha, for summing this up so well for us. And you're absolutely right. When we are believing in ourselves and our values and not letting someone else's values dictate us, I think that is when we are cool. And you've summed it up and explained so well. Thank you so much for being here. Keep sharing and keep interacting. Bye

But when you have confidence in your own authenticity, then you don't need to copy someone. And just because we want to look cool, we start saying stupid things against our tradition, our culture, just because we want to look cool. And this is something which destroys our self confidence and our ability to be authentic. So make sure that just because you want to be cool, you are not copying someone

Thank you so much prashant, for responding on this and putting up your perspective. You're absolutely correct in saying that being authentic is being cool and we don't need to copy paste others just to appear that we are cool. I think it probably stems from an inferiority complex in people when they feel that they have to copy someone else to look cool or to look modern, and which is not the case, which you have rightly said
