The Illusion Of *Knowing

article image placeholderUploaded by @FryedOreo
Are you perhaps a bit too comfortable in knowing the information you do have about anything but most importantly about others and yourself? If so, then classes in session

How well do we really know ourselves and each other?

@FryedOreo

I'm often wondered about this when someone says, yeah, I know you, so I know you would respond in this way, or I know you would think that. And it's often said by someone who maybe you haven't interacted with that much or you don't know very well, like not at all, by any means for years on end. And even still, I don't know that anybody I know for years on end would ever describe another person that way

They were just told some information. It's good they're going to the source, right, to ask me rather than make up their own conclusions or whatnot. But yeah, knowing is kind of like a death of something, in a way. And we think we know so much of this information that's out there, but how many times are we retracting these ideas of knowing to realize that we didn't really know? Even science is not safe right now

Okay. There was a phrase in there that you said that was so powerful, and it was something along the lines of knowing is the death of something? Like, how true is that? And sort of how poetic. I like it. I'm gonna try to hang on to that one. Anyway, our conversation made me think of this particular quote that I have on my instagram that I thought I'd share here

And what you said about getting bored of one another and we also get bored of ourselves. It's awesome that you can find something new. And I've discovered new music that I had no idea that I will be into that type of music or that type of artist. And it will just be maybe one song. But it's like, wait a minute. Okay, it's pretty dope even. We were talking about French music, right? We're talking about that French artist

They may do it through this and this and that to where a person can make it can come off like you're a knowitall, but you're just seeking to understand. You're not saying you know anything. If anything, you're trying to challenge people on what they know. So I think in some aspects we have gotten it wrong about seeking understanding and only seeking to know something. And I think partis is in our educational programming for school standardized testing. It's what you know

How could you seek the truth but never actually feel like you have it? But that's the danger. When you feel you found the universal truth, you kind of feel like you've conquered it. And then, of course, you have a tunnel vision about it. So there's no way to convince you otherwise, because all these theories and everything leads to it, or lack thereof. Theories. We want answers. We don't want to wonder anymore. I think we want answers for everything

And I'll listen to it and I'll say, well, you can never really say what a person would or would not do or a spouse talking about their wife or husband who has strayed from the marriage. Maybe they had a completely exclusive, not open marriage, and they're disappointed that they decided to be open and not tell them. Ended up in some entanglement with another person

We feel we'll take the best of what we had and we'll correct the things that were really bad so we can have an ultimate child. But you begin to realize that some of that stuff that you thought was bad, it really wasn't. And some of the stuff you thought was good isn't. And that's the interesting thing with learning that knowing is a continuing journey. It's a continuing process and relationship with whatever it is you happen to be getting to know better

I mean, the more I learned about vision the more I realized that even simple colors are things that I don't even know. I was reading a book and someone had said that the sky in itself really isn't even blue. That our vision makes us see it as blue but the sky is actually anything but blue and that's why we perceive it to be blue

And in fact, when we do feel that way about someone, we are often dismissive of them altogether in a sense that there's nothing new they can bring to you. Therefore, there is nothing favorable to be had by keeping an established connection with said person. But thank you for joining this conversation

If you open a reducer and a band is playing you will not find the bad inside the radio set it's just mimicking and emitting the sound. It is the same thing how our mind is working. We are connected to this universe through our mind the signals and those signals we perceive from our five senses

Gill, thank you for taking the time not only to listen, but also to offer an audio response to this swell. Yes. Although our perceptions are limited through knowledge and wisdom as well as science, we perhaps can have a better understanding of us as a people. But until then, and we think we know anything, it really seems we don't know s*** at all. Thank you for responding to this well
