Today, my intentions was to talk about form, and I may even still tilt in that way a little bit. But for now, I want to think about the pleasure of a text. What are we doing when we decide to read a book? What do we want from that book? What do we feel like we're going to get from it and our expectations from it? For me, what I want is to be pleased. I want to be swooned. I want to be seduced

So one of the ways that Disha entices me is with the familiar. I come from a family of church ladies. My grandmother was a gospel singer. We would travel up and down the east coast from Philadelphia to Baltimore to Virginia in a little further and places in between to the women's day programs or someone's church anniversary or someone's pastor's anniversary. And she would sing. She and her sister, they were called the street sisters

If you're a Christian, then that means something specific, right. Because it's specifically, if you're a Catholic, right. Then that means something specific, because many Catholics believe that Mary is the wife of God in some ways, or mother of God. And so you have this religious text in this blasphemy in a way that draws you in this blasphemous. How dare you say this? Right?

Let me tell you how, first and foremost, when you're thinking about this, instead of you buying condoms and what it means for a woman to buy condoms, go into a store and purchase condoms and go to the cash register and what that feels like and the judgmental eyes of the cashier, right. That. The idea to leave that up to the male, the penis possessing person, right?

I know I have been rambling on, but I'm really excited to talk about books. I'm so excited to share this space with you about books, and it's hard to contain that into five minute segments. So if you've listened past the first segment, I appreciate you. Thank you. You are welcomed here. Next week, I do want to talk about plot twist
