In her book nobody's Magic, I have yet to meet Dr. Destiny Obersong in person, yet we connected on Instagram after I read nobody's magic, and I am enthralled with nobody's magic. It is one of those newer texts that just kind of, like, snatched my chest. It just snatched me. Because the characters in nobody's magic. Let's get into the title. It's been a minute since I read it, but listen, these characters are hot and vivacious, and they have things to say. Suzette, who is going on this journey of self awareness, wants to break away from her parents, wants to understand what her life is like away from her parents, but also by finding out who her parents are and what their part in her love life plays. When my grandmother died in 2003, I did not want to deal with anyone. I did not want to speak with anyone. I isolated. And that was my embodiment of my grief. But that is not what Maple does. She wants to be close to someone, and she wants that person to be close to her. I am not going to tell you all of nobody's magic because there are so many nuances, so much work put into this text
I know some people are going to cringe to this, right? But I don't want to have to hold my writing too accountable, to hold the weight of the world on its shoulder.
