3 - eDNA Metabarcoding [ Beneath the Surface ]

The findings were both illuminating and a bit humbling. Edna metabarcoding did a decent job in detecting a wide range of species, but there was still a 17% to 25% rate of false negatives that is, failure to detect a species that was present in the community. As a result, there were some discrepancies in quantifying the abundance of each species. Why does this matter? Understanding the composition and abundance of phytoplankton communities is crucial. These tiny organisms are the foundation of the marine food web

This episode of #BeneathTheSurface delves into eDNA metabarcoding for marine microbial communities! #science #marinebiology #biology

Hey, Freya. This is so interesting. And you did such a good job presenting it. Your crystal clear audio quality and the backing supporting sound effects was amazing and definitely helped to keep me interested. It's pretty interesting to hear what we are discovering as science develops into the future, but one thing is for sure, there's always something more to learn. So thanks for keeping us up to date in that underwater world. Appreciate that
