Acting: Can anyone act?

article image placeholderUploaded by @FrankBishop
You're doing it with an artist's words, and you're making it come alive through you. The words come alive, the text come alive through you. And so those things aren't that difficult if you learn how to do them. If you put in the time to learn how to act, I think anybody can act. You can relate to certain emotions that you may read in the text. You may relate to the entire situation. You may understand the state of mind of a character

There's a will, there's a way. Right? Anyone can play basketball. Sure. But are they any good? Do they have a talent for it? Can they get some lesson from it? Sure, but you can get a lesson from wiping your a** on the toilet. I don't mean to be so crass, but I think it's a discredit to actors to just say, well, anyone can do it

No, I definitely agree with you. I do not think that anybody can act. Just because you can read a piece of paper and you can talk doesn't mean that you can act. Obviously, I've seen some really horrible actors and actresses just like we all have. I mean, look at these Tyler Perry plays and things like that. I think that a lot of that stuff is, like, played out

Great points you brought up. And furthermore, does anybody really want to watch great actors on screen? And what is the deciding factor of a great actor? I have my preferences, but someone else can find CW actors capable. And as you had said, the potential of an artist or an actor. Sometimes it takes a certain direction director or a certain writer to bring out talents within someone that everybody suspected didn't have the talent

Because a lot of times, and I would say most of the time, writers are funneling, for lack of better words, their motivation or their life experiences into the text. You'll see people's lives on paper, and it'll come alive on screen or on stage. And so a lot of us have been through the same situation

Yeah, I guess I'm thinking of, like, the Stanislavsky method and the Meisner method and Groundlings and things of that nature. When I think of the craft of acting and I'm guessing you must come from those disciplines as well, since you're talking about acting improv and studying the scene and acting and exercises to think of yourself as a tree or things of that nature, I could see how that could be beneficial for people
