Ask A Local

It's a bit of a drive, but if you visit Ocean Shores, you can drive north up to the location and still make a day of it. Located in the Maka Reservation outside Olympic National Park in the town of NIA Bay, there's a trail that's about three quarters of a mile long that leads through a forest to a viewing platform perched on a cliff with dramatic views, and you can even see a lighthouse from there. Hang out for that next installment

Again, lots of people in the summertime, you'll see in the summer, like in June, July and August, you'll see mountain climbers with full packs. You'll see people hiking and families and things like that. So just build in time for your day to see this

For hikers that want more peace and quiet and like more remote spots, I recommend the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. I've hiked plenty of places out there. It encompasses approximately 394,000 acres in the central Cascades region. Some of the best places can be accessed from the town of Leavenworth. This is a bit of a tough hike. Make sure to wear good hiking shoes or boots. Use trekking poles to help you not only up, but on the way back down in order to save your knees
